Italian Tuneup?
Italian Tuneup?
I found some info in the 2000-2005 forum.
So, put car in 2nd and do a couple WOT runs? How much is too much? I'd like to blow some of the carbon out of the engine. It's basically a "around town" car and almost never gets run on long trips.

An Italian tuneup is good for any car. As the saying goes, a redline a day keeps the carbon away! Make sure it is truly warmed up, before you do anything. The temp gauge only tells the story of the coolant, oil takes a little longer to warm up fully. Honestly one or two sweeps through the RPM range is all it takes.

Seafoam is always a good tool for that too.
I'd hop on the highway or whatever road leads out of town, and go about 20 minutes/miles. Then turn around and get it up to 80 or so as quick as you can. Maybe do that twice, to be sure. That's all the italian tuneup you need. Anything else just wastes gas.

its always good to go on a good cruise over an hour at highway speeds to clean out deposits and you wont get a speeding ticket or worse

I'd do a second gear pull at WOT till it shifts. I think you're over-thinking it lol. Just go for a run on the highway. There's nothing scientific about it, lol.

As long as you don't actually put the shifter in "2" it'll upshift.nailbomb3 wrote:Ahhh it automatically shifts up when it hits redline eh ? I didn't know that. Thanks.

Right. Just leave the shifter in overdrive as normal, no need to do anything different then driving normally. Do not put the shifter in 2, that won't do anything different other then hold it in second gear. From a stop floor it and run it up to the speed limit a couple times, good to go.
