dumbest battery question ever!
I'm ready to take any and all abuse for this question, but I have reasons.
I want to know if the battery in a 2000+ will fit in my 95.
I could just take the one out of my GXP and see if it will bolt down securely
in my SSEi but then the GXP would lose it's computer settings, and run like
crap for a week. I'm thinking
of a way to prevent that, which I may try. Feeling lazy today.
The battery in my 95 is toast. Won't take a charge, won't hold a charge.
The 95 has some other serious issues which will probably cause me to scrap it
very soon, so I don't want to buy a new battery for it.
My GXP battery is good, but it is old, I think six years. So I would like to just
buy the GXP a new battery and put the old one (with the vents) in my 95 so I can
work on it and maybe drive it some.
Is there something else I'm not considering?

hi, yes I think it will fit but you can measure it length and height and width to be sure it will seat properly.

They are almost the same size, it's the hold down wedge bolt
that I'm concerned about.

Re: dumbest battery question ever!
The GXP's battery also gets held down with a wedge and a bolt. If the dimensions are the same, then it should work. At least enough to start it up and run it around.
Bye Bye:

There are little adapters that plug into the cig. lighter with a 9V battery that will supposedly retain all the memories in your electronics. I bought this one but have never used it, so I can't say if it really works or not. http://smile.amazon.com/Powerbuilt-6485 ... detailpage

Re: dumbest battery question ever!
Perhaps I'm missing something here.... I've had the battery in my GXP disconnected on several occasions and never found that it ran differently after reconnecting it. If I'm not mistaken, pretty much most settings are stored in a type of memory that isn't affected by battery disconnects.

Re: dumbest battery question ever!
After a prolonged period of having the battery out of my SLE, all of the sensor readings were deleted and it wouldn't pass an emissions test. After being told to "just drive it for a week and they'll reset" didn't do it,(several times) I found the procedure for a "OBDII driving cycle" online and that finally did the trick. So, things do go away after a while, at least they did on a 2000 SLE. ~ http://www.obdii.com/drivecycle.html

Re: dumbest battery question ever!
It would be nice if they had included some information about affected years. I'm going to have to look into this further. I picked my car up a couple of weeks ago after being in winter storage for a little over five months, all of which time the battery had been disconnected. It ran the same as it did the day it went into storage.

Re: dumbest battery question ever!
Oh, mine ran fine, it had lost all the radio presets and it just wouldn't show as ready for an emissions test but it was running perfectly. Here's more info: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Ge ... ving+Cycle

Re: dumbest battery question ever!
I didn't lose my radio presets but there may be other reasons for this... It makes perfect sense if a DTC is cleared because a repair was completed how this can be a problem, especially if going for an emissions test. I'm still don't understand why the OP is concerned that taking the battery out for a short time will cause his car to run poorly for the next week...

Yeah, I don't think it will affect the way it runs at all.

Re: dumbest battery question ever!
The last two times I replaced the battery in my Tahoe
it wouldn't stay running after the new battery was installed.
I had to keep feathering the gas pedal or it would die.
It ran better and better each time I drove it until it eventually
ran fine, like it did before the removal of the battery.
However my 95 SSEi has had the battery disconnected and
reconnected many times with no noticeable effect.

Hmmmm. I'm not all that familiar with the Tahoe so I can't say for sure. Sometimes different GM lines still use varying strategies in the engineering of their systems. I wouldn't be concerned with your GXP though, I'm sure you'll be fine there.
