SD header install 2016

Post by Pair of SSEI »

As part of my build I am adding SD headers purchased in 2016. Thought I would put my 2 cents worth on the install. Crossover fit very well using band clamps, must have corrected that issue. Only issue was the front motor mount, it must be ground or trimmed off to fit. They will fit as is but rests right on the motor mount. Which I think could give me false KR. Trimmed about 1/4" on top and front side. (I need to learn how to post pics, but danthurs has good picture on car domain.) I reused the stock gaskets but do not know if it leaks yet, Have more work to complete on my Gen V swap before I can fire her up. I will need to remove metal shroud on the cooling fan to get clearance. (I have purchased the fan kit from ZZP to move fans forward., have not done it yet.) Having fun with this build but it keeps growing.

I really need to learn how to post pics.

Glad to see they hopefully fixed the crossover issue there, that makes them even better at the price point they're at.

As far as posting pics, here ya go :)

It's good to know that the crossover issue was fixed finally. When I originally put them on my '86 swap they had the issue then as well, but not as bad as the set I put on the '97. As always, fan spacers are a must.

Still have an issue with the one cooling fan. even with the fan kit from ZZP. It still makes contact with the front header. I could place a piece of header wrap between the fan motor and header. but not sure that will help much. Any other suggestions? May have to live with it short term, need that car back up and running. I have hear some switch the fans to gain clearance, any body done this? Suggestions and consequences needed.

I reversed the fans on my LSS to gain about 1/4 inch clearance, but had to drill a couple spots to attach them, IIRC.

Where would be a good starting point to find a set of SD headers?

Bought mine on Ebay. Not a easy install but not super hard definately worth it. Had to custom a few items. Front motor mount, Fans. Love the sound and my butt dyno says she is quicker.
