Aztek HUD
I am curious as I have a 05 Bonneville GXP and an 01 Aztek, so as most of you may know the Aztek HUD is the only HUD Pontiac made that was in red, and I want to have the red HUD in my GXP it has a better font and I like the message center better, example says low fuel instead of showing the gas pump also when you start the car it says Pontiac and has a picture of the logo. I know from experience the bolt holes are in different spots on the housing of the Aztek HUD and the connectors are different. So if anyone has successfully done the swap I would like to know,

Re: Aztek HUD
I DIDNT KNOW THE AZTEK GOT HUD!!!!
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, it sounds like it uses a similar HUD to the 04+ GP if it shows Pontiac when you start it. Mine says GP in big wide font at startup, and it shows much more info than the Bonneville ones do. I don't think it would be compatible but you might be able to change the light inside to the red one. That is if they even use the same type of light. I know the GP one uses LEDs but I think the other ones use a fluorescent type light.

Re: Aztek HUD
I know that some of the GP guys swap bulbs or something and can then change the color of their HUD. I've seen a blue one before. Not sure if this applies to the Bonneville application.

Re: Aztek HUD
The Bonneville HUD is an entirely different beast than the Grand Prix version and changing colour is just not an option. Ours uses a Vacuum Fluorescent Display which has some serious limitations in comparison with other technologies (including becoming dimmer over time with no resolution except for replacement). I suppose you could try a filter of some type (no idea what colours you may be able to achieve) but it would further reduce the already poor intensity.
I had looked into the Buick Rendezvous HUD at one time (didn't actually know the Aztek had it as well). I don't recall why I didn't pursue it further other than it was probably related to wiring differences and displaying "Buick" on power-up. I haven't done a recent search but given the general flop of the Aztek/Rendezvous, I suspect it would be difficult to find a used one. Probably not that many out there that actually came with it.

Re: Aztek HUD
Hmmm, it would be interesting to see one close up but that housing doesn't look like it will probably be very Bonneville friendly.

They are a really nice HUD, easier to see in the daytime anyway.

Re: Aztek HUD
Did a little more research... Other than it probably won't physically fit correctly, there are two big differences...
1. The connector on the Aztek is a 12 Way, Bonneville is 16 Way. Not the end of the world because this is easy to fix.
2. The Bonneville HUD is hardwired to the Vehicle Speed Signal but the Aztek HUD is not. This could be a much more significant problem and would require experimentation. It may be that unless the speed is broadcast to the HUD on the data bus it will always read as 0. It is possible that the HUD monitors the data bus similar to a scan tool and displays what it finds.
