Push Button Start

Post by 04BonnieSE »

so the chip in the ignition switch is broke and the security system is stoping the car from starting and staying running. What's the best way to disable the security system if there is one? I've got a push button wired up to the starter, it'll start run for 3 seconds then shut off.

The best way? Well, the best way is to have the car repaired properly. The short and to the point explanation is that this anti-theft system requires the module to recognize the key. This triggers a whole series of events (data bus messages between the theft deterrent module and PCM) which ultimately results in the car starting. If I recall correctly, the fuel pump will not turn on and the ignition system will not fire until all the security requirements have been met. I'd have to look back to provide all the specifics but it's not easy to bypass.

Are you sure your not confusing the old VATS pellet "chip" in the ignition barrel

By your signature, you have an '04, which is Passkey 3, "Chip" is in the key head, and RFID transponder ring is around the ignition barrel.

What is the DIC saying, are you getting a solid Security light with a no crank, no start?

I believe what he meant to say is that the transponder ring around the ignition switch is faulty (at least that's what I assumed). I don't think this is really common but it isn't unheard of...

I see.

Please be more detailed on your problem, because there really isn't a way to bypass PK3.

Do you have any codes or evidence that the transponder ring is bad?

Perhaps try the long programming method to see if you can get the key relearned.

I bought a new starter/ignition switch, about 70$ now need to buy a new pass key 3 security chip. It's directly above the key hole when you've got everything taken off.
