First pics of the GXP...

Post by BBamm »

...sort of. I've already had it tinted, installed the 3000k HID fogs and gave her a bath.

Image

I'll be picking up a set of retro-fits later this week but probably won't get them in anytime soon. It's below zero all week here!!

Image

I love the sound from back here! Once it warms up, I'll be removing that dealer sticker too...

Image

Image

Dirty "winter-mode" garage pic to show the difference between the LED(left) and halogen(right) back-up lights.

More to come once the weather gets better. I've got a set of Drilled/slotted brakes to install, the retrofit, hopefully some wheels and whatever else I come up.

Thanks for checking out my ride. Let me know what you think so far.

I like! What did you use for the backup lights and the fogs? I really like the 3000k look.

That's where I found it. The dealer had it "as-is" due to the gauge issue.

I traded an s10 zr5 straight up for it! But the better story is how cheap that made the car for me...

I was given a boat... it was a crappy boat... but I put it on craigslist. This guy offered me the ZR5 with steelies and a LIST of problems. I thought I could tackle them better than the boat's issues so I went for it. The 4wd didn't work(plugged the transfer case back in), the AC didn't work(re-connected the lower hose and filled it), heat didn't blow(Rockauto blower resistor $8-shipped), the radio didn't work(I had a spare in the garage), it was missing the roof rack(u-pull for $15), needed a grille and headlights($120 all new pieces) and the tailgate didn't work($50). I tinted it and put $250 work of wheels on it, bringing my grand total to less than $800 including tax/title. Traded it to the dealer as a working 4wd truck with ice cold are and hot heat just before winter and it cost me $100 to fix the gauges on the car! That made the cost of the car a whopping $900 out of my pocket!!!

HA! :btruestory:

Thanks! I've always been into fast 4-doors so this is a nice fit. A buddy has a G8 GT with a Livernois tune and headers, mine won't be that fast but I like it! I do have the typical gas door rot and I have a stability control issue but I need access to a tech2 to figure that one out I guess. Other than that, the car is GREAT!!

I'd like to try to make it to the MI meet in June but I've got to convince the wife to let me first... :dontknow:

That's pretty dang good! If I remember, they had it listed starting at almost $7,000 then lowered it down to just under $5,000 over three or four months. I wanted it but couldn't swing it at the time

That's exactly what they had it for. When I was there, I was speaking with one of the mechanics and a sales guy(not the one I bought from), and they said that all they do is buy cars at auction and sell them for double what they paid. The mechanic is there for oil changes and to make them (just)road-worthy. He said my truck would go right back to the auction.

The best part about my car is it had the original owner's business card in the glove box, all the service records, repair receipts and even a few storage receipts (apparently it started out never seeing snow..). There was a receipt in there for when a tire shop talked him into downsizing his rims to save some money though... :(

The guy had traded a 1 year old Cadillac in for this and kept this until 2013 when he traded it in on a new Caddy! The Pontiac pouch in the trunk looked like it had never even been opened!

Thanks! And sorry I missed your question...

The back up lights are CREE LED's from Astra Depot on Amazon. I bought "warning cancelers" to work basically as a ballast for even power and they work great!
The HID fogs are from Innovited but I'm changing them soon. I'm switching to a 55 watt set-up with 5000k's instead and putting yellow film over the lenses. It will give me much more light output but maintain that yellow look.

Thanks again, and by the way, I think your car looks AWESOME!!! Love the wheel color and paint combo!!

That's an awesome trade, you did very well. The colour and rim combo look great.

BTW, I traded some tools I no longer use for my red '93 in my signature. Gotta love it!

Awesome and thanks! I always love hearing about a good trade. As for the wheels, not a huge fan...

I'm actually taking donations for stock replacements! :helpsmilie: ...kidding (maybe).

I miss that bodystyle that you have, I had a '97 and LOVED it.

If you're in a pinch, look for some 18" Mustang wheels, I have a set on my SE in my sig pic and they are similar in style to GXP wheels.

You could always find some cheap stock wheels that aren't perfect and fix them.

I saw that!! Awesome job man! I'm not afraid to do the work but I'm not even finding rough ones anywhere. Andrew's got that one set but their a little too rich for my blood right now...

Those fit quite well... I wouldn't have guessed they sat at the fenders like that. You didn't use spacers, did you?

Nice ride, i was hoping to find red like yours while hunting for my buick...I myself love to trade and have done so with many of my own cars most recently being my 88 Sierra longbed for my 94 Cherokee Sport 2-door... im in the same boat as you, I'll be at the meet if I can convince my wife to go too lol

Has anyone tried these on a GXP though? With the bigger brakes, I wonder if there would be a clearance issue. Also, not a huge fan of using the wrong bolt-pattern, even if it is only .7mm off. Did you ever have to re-torque your wheels after rough roads?

Thanks!

They have more clearance over the SSEi brakes then the stock 17" wheels and those clear GXP brakes so the Mustang wheels would clear easily. I never actually drove with the Mustang wheels as I needed a tire for the set then sold my SSEi and took the GXP wheels off that and put them on my SE.

Many people have ran the 5×114.3 bolt pattern though from a Mustang without issue, the bug bore diameter is dang near exact which really helps too, it is rare to hear of issues with that setup and most issues come from wheels with a different hub bore and not using hub centric rings.
