Should we move to facebook, or tie in this site to facebook?

Post by 1oldman »

I'm no fan of facebook. I don't even have an account on facebook. But due to what appears to me to be the number of members that frequent facebook and not our site, would it be a serious consideration? Or can we parallel this forum web site to a facebook account? Bill

EDIT: or should the term be run them concurrently? Bill

I do too, since I don't like facebook, naturally I'd like the FORUM best. - BC

I'd rather the forum stay separate. The people who frequent the FB group aren't the brightest, nor adorned with the greatest taste.

And that's being nice about it.

Forum for me. I frequent the fb group only to help out the random good ones on there and to troll to tools as well

^^ I agree with this, also moderators are able to sanction abusers of the forum, I don't think they would be able to control FB in the same manner.
I think most serious requests for help are to be found on the forum, it's why I joined the forum in the first place.

American Auto Club (UK) recently updated its website and deleted the forum, and all traffic now goes through FB. It's fair to say the forum had very little traffic, but the FB site seems limited to pics of car shows and for sale/wanted ads.
I regret to say the Club seems to be in terminal decline, deleting the forum certainly didn't help.
I hope this forum stays alive and grows and prospers as C and H Bodies move from being old cars to collectible classics, they might never have the following of say Tri Chevys from the mid '50s, but being a sound basic design that won't defeat a competent hobby mechanic, I dare say they will be looked on favourably in the course of time.

Roger.

Yeah, I say keep them separate. That Facebook group, I don't know. I just can't tell with some of those people if they are serious or trolling, or if they have a much worse (mental) issue.

The Classier crowd is here on the forum.

A facebook group is functionally nothing like a proper message board/forum, you lose A LOT of control, and it just becomes amateur hour.

Definitely a higher quality of posts and information on the site than the Facebook... Honestly the only reason I'm even on the Facebook is for the random pictures/updates from site members...
