Re: Will GXPs appreciate in value?
I think part of that has to do with the fact though that by 2005 you had only two models SLE and GXP. 2004 had 3 trims. SE, SLE, and GXP.1tinindian wrote:CMNTMXR57 wrote:Someone on GMForums got these numbers from Hi Performance Pontiac...
GXP sales;
2004 = 2,420
2005 = 4,193
Total Bonneville sales;
2004 = 29,852
2005 = 10,037
Interesting to see that almost half of all Bonnevilles in 2005 were GXP models.
As to G8 vs. Bonneville (GXP), G8's aren't perfect (parts availability as the car ages as well as body parts and cost have always been my bugaboo as I'm learning with my GTO), but from a performance enthusiast standpoint, which is generally what drives these types of cars resale, a G8 is basically a knock-off BMW. It has the right engine options, right transmission options, funnels it's power to the right end of the car, and handles pretty darn well and is properly "balanced" as a RWD performance car should be). In many cases of reviews, it has been claimed to be the best Pontiac sedan that Pontiac has made in recent memory. Which is something the Bonneville GXP never received similar accolades on.
Instead here are the accolades from a Car and Driver comparo on the Bonneville GXP;
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons ... gxp-page-3
Their verdict?
And their end summary of the 2nd place finish to the Chrysler;An expensive dose of so-so
While I disagree with many of their comments about the interior (as I like the GXP interior, ESPECIALLY the gauges), Other than a few of us here who appreciate the car, I fail to see it commanding a premium driving appreciation in value.Even so, at this price, the highest in the test, you can buy a lot more car for the cash.
Again, I like the Bonneville, especially the GXP (despite my love/hate relationship with mine), and I agree with many of the comments here. Just enjoy it for what it is and not worry about what it'll resale for in 10 years. Cars at all aren't good investments if that is your mindset.

2005 also had SE available, not just SLE and GXP.

Re: Will GXPs appreciate in value?
Well lotsa of good debate here! I really appreciate the input and it has helped me make up my mind. I guess then the possible need for trade in on a newer car will have to trump the possible, if not likely, financial gains to be made later. I really like the car and I think that it has a good combination of performance, comfort, and room. I think it's sharp as hell and I really like to drive it. I don't owe a dime on the car and could just park it, cover it, and redo it later when this body style is even less common than it is. (And fundage is available for a good restoration) I like to drive vehicles that not every john or jane doe is driving. That's why I liked the GXP so much. You just don't see them on every block.
That said, I will wait until the time is right to look for a new vehicle and assess if I need to trade it in or not, or if I can scrape up some cash for the down payment.
Thanks again for the input!

Wasn't the sunfire GXP the first to wear the badge, although it was just a concept?

Re: Will GXPs appreciate in value?
I think the sales figures point out that this isn't a car the public is generally interested in. But to people like me, the car is highly desirable for that very reason. I believe they will be worth quite a lot to any collector favoring rare and unique vehicles. To anyone else, they won't be worth anything. I owned a 2002 Grand Prix GTP that I originally planned to keep for collector purposes, but they're so common there's really nothing special about them. I like to watch all the car shows on TV, and there's a lot of people out there willing to spend a lot of money for weirdest cars. Only time will tell if the GXP will fall into that category.

Maybe ONLY if it's a pristine, low mileage, garage queen.
Sadly most are well near, if not past the 100k mark and have been DD's for years, and we all know how N*'s are at that point in time
