Re: Intercooler
What did you pay for the GenV that was horribly shipped?

It's like I told you yesterday: you keep running into trouble trying to copy me. Probably because I did it all wrong.

Re: Intercooler
I picked up the GenV for $400, then he refunded the shipping costs after I talked with him, so it ended up around $375.
ZZP got back to me, they'll swap the TB plate no problem. But Zoomer says they can not make the old style fuel rail...

Re: Intercooler
Well *dang*, yeah I should have. Didn't think you'd have had them since it isn't specifically '00-'05 Bonneville related.

Re: Intercooler
Interesting project. Been following . . and will continue to do so. Quick question; not to take it off topic (too much), but I figure it is only one answer . . so no need for a full topic.
Could a Gen III supercharger be directly swapped with a Gen V supercharger?
Or do you HAVE to do modifications?

Re: Intercooler
It bolts up but IMO its a bit of a rabbit hole because of all the extra little stuff. Tb adapters, vacuum setup stuff, evap and egr, pcv, etc. Lots of acronyms to deal with. Then again I'm kind of an idiot so I did everything just a little different than normal. Ymmv.

Re: Intercooler
You won't really be using a GenV to it's full potential unless you're pairing it with a ported throttle body or a larger one like the Northstar TB as well as using a ported LIM or the GenV's LIM since the opening is larger.

Re: Intercooler
Between mixed up orders and my availability it took me a little while to get back to this but it's time I dug this up for an update. Still many things that I want to revisit, but it is up and running for now.
I went back and forth with ZZP a bit more about the modded fuel rail and never really got any more out of them besides "we can no longer make the old style fuel rails". Okay fine. I ended up with a set of ZZP's fuel logs which of course still needed some minor clearancing to the mounting brackets in order to clear the IC plates
These do look soooo much better, too bad ZZP is the only one that still offers a complete system.

Bit of a mock-up on the floor

Debated on doing a polish or paint/polished fins or some sort of combination on this but eventually decided to just stick with the wrinkle black. It was the easier option, and won't be nearly as much of a pain to maintain given the miles that I drive this thing. Plus the wrinkle paint looks pretty *dang* good on it's own. This time though I used a zinc chromate (sp?) primer that is supposed to be good for aluminum and I actually oven baked the wrinkle painted items as opposed to just using a hair dryer to help aid the wrinkling process. Ideally this should last well past a couple years or so before peeling up like my last two GenIII's and valve cover jobs have done in the past.
On the LIM however I just went with a high-temp black + clear since it's already rough cast and not in plain sight.

Roughly 3-1/2 coats of the VHT Wrinkle paint

Baking for about an hour @ 200ºF

Mock-up again, turned out pretty darn good

Then thing began to move onto the car....in the driveway since the garage became a clean room for my dad's engine build. And custom ramps, because lowered problems.

Teardown:

YAY LIM TREASURE!

Comparison between the GenIII & IC+GenV setups

LIM down

Intercooler down

GenV down, and now it's time to play a game called "Will it Shut?"

And the answer is yes, barely. The hood latches but there is definitely contact on the hood. Solution: Dents. Moving on...
Everything more or less buttoned up. At this point I still needed to source a proper SC belt, which after going back and forth with Napa a few times before being given 4 belts and told to bring the other 3 back, ended up being a 733. Also discovered the fuel pressure gauge on the fuel logs is right along the path for the GXP Strut brace. I went without the brace for the time being because a) I can't tell a difference with/without it and b) I didn't know at the time but the fuel pressure gauge proved to be extremely useful just a few days later. I intend to get a sending unit and link the fuel pressure reading to one of the aeroforce gauges in the car. Hopefully I'll be able to get a sending unit to clear the strut brace's path.

I ended up having to pull this all off again the following day because in my rush to get this done in time to leave for the Michigan meet, I managed to not put any RTV down around the EGR hole. Everything went back on and I did make it to the meets, though still chasing vacuum problems. And ended up finding this while at Ryan's during the meet

Lucky for me Ryan had another valve cover laying around. What had happened though, is if you're familiar with it, there is a bracket that goes from the alternator to the back of the SC. Simply with the SC raised the 2" the bracket no longer fits properly, but in my case also doesn't clear the fuel logs, therefore weight reduction it is. However, when I put the alternator back on I apparently swapped the longest and shortest bolts. Being composite, I didn't even notice a difference when I was tightening things up. That, along with some help from Pat and Randy at the meet we got my vacuum lines run correctly and Chloe was running noticeably better, but I still have a hissing noise under boost.
Eventually made it home after numerous issues which will be covered in the Michigan meet thread, but ended up at DynoBrian's shop for some tuning on my way home....and the results:
Dyno pulls from January this year:

And last week with the added intercooler & GenV

Gained 45hp and 123 ft.lb.
I expected the hp gains to be in that area, but the torque curve blew my mind.

Even with the hole in the valve cover, no tune and the fuel pump coming up short, I though she pulled pretty nicely.

Re: Intercooler (Update 6/24 Running & Dyno'd)
Pics show up for me, though it takes forever and a half to load. I used imgur to upload these, apparently imgur isn't forum friendly when it comes to a bunch of pictures I guess.
Thanks guys! Ever since the tune though I smell coolant anytime I get out of the car and I smell oil every time I get on it. I've also developed an inconsistent 4-9* of KR the past couple days.
I need to get those issues resolved and I'll head to the track and see what she'll do.
[EDIT] Editing to add that I resolved my issues. Coolant leak was the overflow hose, oil leak was the rear valve cover gasket not properly seated and the KR was because there was air in the intercooler system. Also here's the time slip just to sum up this thread...

I was reading through this again for my build and noticed your first dyno sheet. What mods did you have with that pull? The numbers seem really low on the torque side to me or at least compared to my dyno pulls, could be partialy different dyno's or course but my car did 216whp and 271wtq mostly stock.....

Re: Intercooler (Update 6/24 Running & Dyno'd)
I have very comparable race times with mine.
Best trap is 103 mph and best time is 13.48
This engine is all about torque.
If you use better traction tires you can bring your 60 ft down and gain a few more tenths.

This engine is all about torque.
If you use better traction tires you can bring your 60 ft down and gain a few more tenths.

Re: Intercooler (Update 6/24 Running & Dyno'd)
I remember seeing your dyno sheets and thinking your numbers were high. The before pulls were basically intake, headers, tune, and a 3.5 or 3.6 pulley. But that said I've been fighting KR from the start so I've been running a bigger pulley than most others with similar mods, and my timing wasn't advanced much if at all. I don't recall off hand what it was or even what it's at now, I'd have to look.

Re: Intercooler (Update 6/24 Running & Dyno'd)
Hmmm interesting... I know KR is a huge killer of power so im sure thats part of it and i'm sure completely different dyno's is a factor too. I do remember at the meet though before you had your build complete and tuned that your car pulled on mine but not that much IMO. Also greg has said it felt even faster than his was with similar to your earlier mods, though he also fights KR bad. Well eother way I'm curious how my numbers will compare to yours once mine is intercooled. It seems like i'm gonna have a very similar build so far.
