cylinder 5 misfire

Post by macksdaddy77 »

got my bluetooth scanner in the mail today and immediately hooked up to torque pro.. well i had 4 codes.. catalytic, MAF, thermostat and cylinder 5 misfire.. cleared them and only one that comes back is misfire.. glad i found it.. i guess a single cylinder misfire can rule out a coil right?? ill change plug and wire tomorrow. any other ideas? guess its just a process of elimination...

Swap the coils around and see if the misfire follows the coil.

It could also be a faulty injector. Move it around, too, and see if the code follows.

The woman across the street has guys working under tent here. I'd like to hear how its running. If that is the insulator in #5 plug it looks good for the blame.

Note if you pull the injectors to obserbe fuel delivery...make sure you leave the plugs in and disconnect the ign. Believe me

It it a constant miss, only at idle, or only while under load?

That is usually a bad plug or wire, is it only cylinder that is throwing the code?

Have you tried swapping the coils around yet? All the carbon build up on the plug shows that the injector seems to be working. I wonder if the coil is bad and it can't cause the plug to fire under load. This can happen, since the boost increases the pressure in the cylinder, there would be a lot of pressure to overcome to create proper spark.

Yea it's the only cylinder pulling a code... and I was under the assumption that of a coil went bad it wuld make 2 cylinders throw a code. Is that not always. Cuz I'll Def give it a shot.

AFAIK one plug fires when current flow begins(rise) and the other when it stops(collapse). Collapse is usually stronger so a week coil might have one plug have problems first.
