Polished the blue beast

So back before one of our local CHC guys final summer bash in late September, I ended up polishing the car with my 15+ year old WEN random orbital buffer. It was showing it's age, the bearing was shot, and the pad was tearing itself apart. So I knew I needed to buy a new buffer or polisher. Started doing some research and it comes down to the two most popular choices. 1) Porter Cable 7424 XP and 2) Flex 3401 VRG. The Porter Cable is roughly half the price, and that was what I was set on. Doing some more R&D, I watched a few videos online, which made it clear that the Flex was by far and away worth every penny more. So I bit the bullet and bought it.

Finally got around to using it over my little Christmas vacation and thought I'd post up. Now granted the GTO wasn't hardly in any bad shape whatsoever, but I have to say, I think this thing made a world of difference. The Wife says she can't tell, but I can. The power of this thing vs. the Porter Cable makes it just an absolute beast. I used a Lake Country polishing pad (light green).

Since I uploaded 29 pics, I'm just going to link my folder instead of posting individual pics. I'll be honest... These pics are taken with my phone (Nokia Lumia 920), which does have a pretty good camera, but by no means is this a DSLR or anything of high quality, so I have to say, these pics don't do it justice.

I can't wait until spring to take this thing to the Caddy using the light cutting pad, and then polishing it...

Flex > Porter Cable 7424XP all day any day, you made the right choice for sure. My next polisher will be a Rupes 21 Bigfoot, I certainly wouldn't turn down a Flex though.

What polish did you use? It looks great!

I mean the shininess. My G8 has a bunch of swirls and orange peel. Still looks better than a lot of G8s I've seen (not the Pontiac Bonneville Club ones) though. But I want more.

Mine isn't perfect either. A better polish come spring will help that.

2x is too much...

Part of the reason is that I work so much and that an hour long cruise results in 6 hours of resterlization. So at some point in time, it just becomes more of a hassle to take it out. And secondly, the Caddy is 95% of the performance in a DD.
