another hid post
ive been searching all morning for some info on putting hids in my 98 ssei. i know theyre not the best option and a retrofit is a better approach but i dont really want to spend that kind of money. i had cheap o depot hids in my 2000 sierra and really liked them, they worked fine for over two years and cost around 50 bucks shipped. was it the best or most usable light? no. but i think they looked nice without being riced out. now my questions are will it screw with my lamp indicator? and should i buy the extra harness? il probably go with 4300k just to make it a little more practical highest il go is 6000k which is what i had in my truck. once they were warm they were white with just a light tinge of blue. i plan on buying two kits one for lows and one for fogs, never had to use my highs in the truck so im assuming these will be the same. i may do the highs later if need be. thanks in advance and hopefully i put this in the right catagory.

Re: another hid post
It isn't just a problem of how much useable light it makes for you, it is mostly a hazard for other drivers that can't see due to the huge amounts of glare and scattered light. It is illegal to use HIDs in reflector housings and I really wish that police would nail people for it more often. Please either do it right or don't do it at all.

If you aim them right its not that bad to other drivers. I had my wife driving my truck and she passed me in the on coming lane And it didn't seem any different then the rest of the cars and I was in my trans am. But I do understand the issue with blinding people but I figured with how low the bonnie sits it shouldn't be horrible. I'm in a town were everyone in there brother has a lifted power stroke with hids pointed at the sky blinding the crap out of people so maybe I won't get noticed lol

Re: another hid post
It was horrible when I had them and I had them aimed down. Don't do it. Plus you're blinding yourself with the foreground if you ever go out anywhere where it's super dark.

Re: another hid post
Even aimed down the glare is still horrible. There just flat out is no way to do it and make it right without doing a full projector setup. My honest opinion is if you don't want to or don't have the money to do it right then you shouldn't be doing it. It is a safety hazard to others on the road and a major annoyance on top of that to everyone around.
If you want brighter whiter lights then do some searching as it has been discussed many times and there are better alternatives then junk pnp hid systems.

Ok well you kept me from ordering them tonight. I think I may look into the HIRs. hate to have to trim my headlights but I guess they shouldn't be to hard to find at the yard to practice on. I'd like to see a good set of those in person first tho. I can't see myself doing the projector swap since it dosnt seem like theres a cheap way to make it worth doing. I just still hate the yellowish headlights on a bright white car

If you just want the whiter or bluer light, you can get tinted halogens. I know they're not the greatest for light output but they get the appearance side of things done.. If you live in a well lit city you're not missing out on much.
Retros are worth EVERY penny though. Just sayin'. It's one of those, you don't love it till you try it kind of things.

After you aim them "right", other drivers are still getting blinded to an extent, and now you're the one who can't see!93fs wrote:If you aim them right its not that bad to other drivers.

Don't improve your headlights. Anything above stock makes other motorists angry. Just tough it out man...you don't want to upset anyone else. Your safety is second to all others...

Re: another hid post
HIDs in reflector housings improves very little other then throwing useless light everywhere giving the illusion of better light when really it is only marginally better. It certainly doesn't do anything to help your own safety, especially enough to make the road a more unsafe place for others to drive.FasGP wrote:Don't improve your headlights. Anything above stock doesn't anger other drivers when done the right way. There really is nothing cool at all about slapping pnp HIDs in stock reflector housings, on the other hand, doing a proper projector retrofit is basically car porn and something that everyone will appreciate.

I'll be starting on a 96-99 retro at the end of this week, that might lay down a path for you should you choose to do one. Retros rock. Not only is the light superior, but they just look beautiful. Both from behind the wheel and on the outside.

Guess I'm just gonna wait and do a retrofit
