Does your wife hate your car?

Post by Jfridge92 »

So our driveway kind of sucks, in that we have to park our cars right behind each other. Ashlee works at 6am, so if my car is behind hers, I usually have to move it so she can get out. I didn't feel like moving my Buick this morning, so I just told her to take it (Scary I know!) instead of her car.

Anyways, I wake up to a text this morning, saying "I love that your car runs better than mine, and it's comfortable, but I hate it! It's so loud (engine wise) and it sounds like a space vacuum cleaner is running when I start it! Make it quieter please! Also, why does it shift so quickly, I don't like it!"

I'm assuming she's referencing my intake making all of the noise, and the fact that my shift points are quicker/stronger thanks to my tune.

Does anyone else's wife/girlfriend hate the mods on your cars? I guess this means i either have to con her into letting me leave them, or just de-mod for the Chicago trip to please her hahahaha.

Yes.

Mine sees an automobile as nothing more than another appliance like the ones in her kitchen or laundry room. It's sole purpose is to get you from point A to point B, as quietly, efficiently, and safely as possible.

The GTO is referred to as "the hunk of sh*t in the garage!" and the Caddy is referred to as "the hunk of sh*t outside of the garage!" I usually quip back to her, "Oh, you mean your van? The Rolling garbage can?"

She is not amused.

My girlfriend loves my car, saying its one of the comfiest cars she's ever been in.

My car is pretty quiet even with the intake and Flowmasters if you have the windows up. But I can totally understand her being annoyed by the FWI noise at cold start up, especially with AC running. Sweet Jesus almighty is my intake loud. Just ask Will.

Maybe you can just put the normal intake box on for the trip to Chicago.. Although once warmed up, you won't even know it's there on the highway.

Same goes with PCM tune. These bits will only help on the open road. Sure, shifting may get annoying in traffic, but you can always hold a gear.

My sister rolls her eyes every time the shifter comes off OD

My brother's first girlfriend (now ex, as this was many years ago) hated my LeSabre because my brother and I were always working on it. She kept trying to bring me down by telling me it was an old person's car and I could never get a girlfriend in a car like that. I always just laughed, but that made her more angry.

Then she really hated after I picked up the Bonneville. Said the car was too fast and that I shouldn't have been allowed to drive it (she had 4 speeding tickets at the time, and I had 0). She was mad cuz it could smoke her '01 Cougar. She wanted to trade it in for a Cobalt SS, because she had to have the better/faster car than me. She never got that Cobalt.

I can only imagine what she'd be like with me and the G8!

Hahaha I know, I can only imagine what she'll say when I finally get an F-body or something v8 powered. She HATES that I'm obsessive over T/A's or anything fast that I see on the highway.

Lane, I'm helping my mother in law move back up there September 2-7, then we're leaving to come back on the 8th. It's going to be kind of tightly scheduled, especially since I've never met any of her family up there besides her grandmother. Otherwise I would try and see if I could set up a meeting with some of you guys ;)

We'll be more in the Arlington Heights part of Illinois, so I don't know how close or far that is for some of you.

My wife used to hate driving my Olds with the L67. Always complained about the supercharger whine. Whined, about the whine.

Then one day she calls me while driving (don't judge!) and in the middle of her sentence talking to me, she stops to say "I don't think so Mr. Honda", as I hear the SC whine loudly as she puts the pedal to the floor! I died laughing. She has gotten to the point where she complains how slow her van is when trying to pass people.

Yeah, my mom refuses to drive the Bonneville. The whine of the supercharger scares her to death. She hates it when I get on it, and she always thinks the engine's going to blow when the whine kicks in!

While they did come from the factory with an L67, mine was na from the factory. I did an engine, and trans swap. The C body, park aves, and 98s are basically the same as bonnevilles in many ways, they just have a slightly longer trunk.
