Gas tank

Post by nos4blood70 »

What's the lowest you guys have gotten on your fuel gauge/the fuel range in the DIC? I've noticed that the low fuel warning comes on when there's like 5 gallons left in tank. Yay grandmamobile.

Under 40 miles left it goes to LOW, IIRC. My dad put 19 gallons in the GXP one time....

My gas gauge completely died on the way back home from Miami, sooooooo I don't have a low gas light. Not that I had one before, but now I don't have the little orange triangle to help me haha.

Wow. Well I've yet to see Penny get to LOW in the DIC. We shall see how many times I can make the 25 mile round trip commute to work with an indicated quarter tank. Hahaha

I had left Vermillion SD when the DIC said 90 miles to empty, thinking that should be plenty to make a 60 mile trek to Sioux Falls. Then I got to the Interstate and it dropped to 40. Wasn't too much later the gas gauge was sitting right at the center of the E. At this point the low range had been on for maybe 20 miles. I had to pray to make it to Beresford which was only a little over half way to Sioux Falls. Long story short, I put in 18.9 gallons.

Light came on the other day as I got home. Starting it the next day it didn't come on till had driven like 10 blocks. Took 14 gallons. Didn't really try to top off. At least it's reasonably close unlike my last car.

First 3 motorcycles didn't have a gage so got in the habit of reseting the trip ODO whenever filling up. First bike with a gage was so inaccurate that I kept doing it. Wore out the reset function(mechanical) before 60K. Never really carried it over to cars but would as a backup. In fact, smiled a little seeing the reset was electronic on the Bonne.

I've put 72.8 litres in the GXP. 19.2 gallons :eek2:

It was in February 2012 though. Our volumes are corrected to 15 Degrees C (59F), so it's likely a lower volume than indicated went in because it was cold outside.

I always let it go to the point where I'm running on fumes lol. I try to only fill once a week. Fuel range is always to 'LOW MI' when I fill up, most I've ever put in was 18.7 gallons. Most its ever cost me to fill was $78...ouch! I do love the large capacity fuel tank though, usually get around 400 miles or so to a tank give or take.

Forgot to mention...does anyone else have a hell of a time with their gas cap or am I just mentally challenged? I HATE that thing! Unscrew til those 2 plastic tab things hit the groove and then I have to jimmy it back and fourth to get it off. Going back on, same thing...line up the tabs, push it in like a half inch and then I can finally turn and tighten it. Its always a royal PITA

No, but for some reason have always wondered if my cap is a replacement. Possibly because it isn't tethered............ Decided to look in the manual. Doesn't look the same and isn't spring loaded so maybe I was correct.

Put 17.7 in today. 19.1 MPG not bad. I always struggle to get 300 miles per tank.

Funny story: I filled up this morning and put 50 miles on the Passat, and it says I have 785 left on the tank, lol. OEM rating is 795... Same size tank as the Bonne, too...

I've been kinda careful with the SSEi, only ever had to put in 15.3 gallons once. But I average 24mpg with 50% city and 50% freeway. All freeway gets me 27-28 still.

Once. I put 18.4 gallons in the '86. It was starting to lose power as I coasted into the station.
