Black Shine

Well, it's been almost a year since I put a good coat of wax on the Bonneville. And after tearing everything out of the interior to prevent anymore backseat swimming pools, I really neglected the exterior. So, this weekend, I thought I would be nice to the car and give it a good cleaning and detailing.

I did a full wash, clay and wax. I got a discount on this wax from Turtle Wax that was made specifically for cars with black paint. It was interesting as the wax itself is actually black. I did this all by hand, and it's still nowhere near the magic Ryan produces, but I really love how it turned out.

I really love this new wax! It's a 2 step process, so it takes longer, but it hides almost all swirls marks, most of the scratches in the paint, and even toned down the severity of the road rash on the back doors!

Now, if I can just finish my interior, I'll have a decent looking car again!

White can be hard to get good pictures of. I did the G8 the weekend before, and took some pictures, but with the lack of sun and just being white, the camera got very little of the shine. White is a color that really needs to be seen when it's clean!

It still doesn't look like it did when you took the buffer to it in '09, but from 3 feet away, you'd never know, and that works for me for now!

Is that the Black Box wax? I used that on my old car and my friends VW, which hadn't even been washed in 2 years, made it look awesome.

Yeah, that's the stuff. In my opinion, it worked wonders on the black paint. The best results I've had without taking a polisher to the paint. Only thing is, next time I use it, I'm wearing gloves, because my finger nails are still black, even after washing them over and over again!

I should get some sealant to put on on the wax, just to make it last longer, and so I don't have to spend another 6+ hours on it!

I/ me and Heath used BB on his black 02 SSEi last summer. It's good stuff. They actually make a product similar for white cars now too.

Looks good! I have some of that stuff left from my black Monte Carlo - like you say, it's great for hiding imperfections and road rash. They also make it in red and maybe another color.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I really like stuff. Best part is I did not get any of that smear/halo effect after applying the wax. Anytime I used something else (other than cleaner wax), I also get that smear effect (even when applying in shade), and that just makes it look awful in the sun.

I'm using this stuff on the Rainier next weekend (have to work this weekend), and I can't wait to see it shine once more!

I should have, but it was Memorial Day, and I just didn't get a chance once people started showing up for the cookout. I've also been real busy this week, so I haven't had a chance.

Right now, it's not black shine anymore, as rain mixed with the pollen that was sitting on it, and made it into a mess. Once these rains clear out, I'll hit it with the quick detailer and try to get some more pics!

I still need to get some good pics of the G8 all cleaned up.

Meguiars Makes a wax that is formulated for White cars/light colored, and then a different one for Black/Dark colored cars

I have the Meguiars stuff that is for white (or light colored) paint. I used that on the G8. That gave it a real nice smooth and slick surface.

I used the Souveran formulated for red and black cars on the GXP. It made the Liquid Red look liquid.

Looks great! I LOVE black cars and this looks great! I use the Meguiars Black box on my roof and love the finish it gives. Black paint can be such a pain to get streak and swirl free and it gets rid of much of the headache! Ill have to try out the white stuff. White is so easy to clean and Meguires regular blend wax is good but cant hurt to try to find something better!

Edit: Picked up some of the White wax and a new Black Box. Should get a chance to wax the car sometime this week!

Love black! Harder to keep clean, but more rewarding!
