steering linkage ?

Post by oldslss »

Hey everybody,

when my steering wheel is dead center and when i move it right to left it feels like there is play and you can hear a clunking when it shifts from right to left this only happens when its parked.

i hope its not something to hard to fix :(

It's most likely just a tie rod end, but could also be a ball joint or anything else in the steering system. Best way to tell is have someone make it clunk, and follow the sound. Look for relative movement between tie rod ends and the knuckle, the ball joints, etc...

When I had this problem it was due to rotted out subframe bushing holes. Turning caused the subframe to shift and bang up against the bolt.

for those who commented it seems to be coming from the rack most likely gear play, not good!
