battery ...hopefully

Post by chelbanger »

Quick question, car wouldn't start this morning. It was starting harder than normal the last few days. Jumped it and it started, ran normal all the way to work. Do I need a new battery? Also when I got it started, there is now a " whirrling" high pitch noise coming from the dash area, wasnt there before. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Ada

Starting to get cold now, how old is the battery? It does sound like a weak battery issue. Make sure you have the alternator checked out as well to make sure it is keeping your battery charged.

The whirling noise in the dash was probably the blower motor. Turn it off to confirm.

I agree. Replace the battery. You're probably just being over-paranoid about the other stuff at this point...

Well I've had the car going on almost 4 years, I've never changed the battery. And its still a delco, so not sure how old the battery is. Blower motor? But I never heard the sound before this morning...thanks for your thoughts guys. Will find something out after work

That whirring noise could actually be the alternator as its taking a heavier than normal load to charge the drained battery. Maybe it just sounds like the noise is coming from the dash...open the hood and see if the noise is louder in there.

You guys are right as usual. Had battery tested, it had a charge, but came back bad. Alternator and starter all tested great. Replaced the battery and everything is great. The noise was the alternator. Also i did notice the car is shifting a little differently, not badly, it seems to be better actually. I read in a post earlier that this can reset the trans computer? I dont know, just glad i got a battery, and that will be worry free for a long time. Thanks everyone!
