Which hi-flow cat to buy

Post by PLAGUE PHANTOM »

As the title says...i want to know what kind of aftermarket cat to use. I prefer ones that are just bolt on and go. Which ones are the best? Magnaflow? Flowmaster? I want a more deeper sound from my exhaust.

Link to ZZP but it is a 'weld in' so you either weld it in or trim and use a coupler. Or you can buy any weld in universal and have a shop weld it in or use couplers. I have the spun metal convertor from magnaflow (in 3" for the L67).

It won't do as much for getting a deeper tone as a bigger or additional resonators will.

So I should get the downpipe and the cat to get the sound I want? Which cat should I get that doesn't set off the CEL?

Any high-flow cat is gonna throw a CEL. It's also not going to change the sound, unless you change the diameter of the pipes before/after the cat...

So pretty much a downpipe and everything past the cat will do. How do I get rid of the CEL if i get a hi flow cat?

I never had a CEL come on when I had my Magnaflow. You could get a rear O2 sensor bug or have it tuned out for that code.

That is why I'm getting a magnaflow. Better warranty. What is an o2 sensor bung? Is it the hole the o2 sensor threads into?

The magnaflow already has a bung on it. At least the one I was looking at for my Bonneville.

Yes, there are a few styles. If you want to keep the sensor, buy the one with the bung. Otherwise you can delete the sensor and reprogram it out.

No. Bug. You dont run the the post cat sensor and just plug it in to fool the PCM. ZZP used to make them but not sure about now.

I would put the cat on first and see if it throws the code. I have had my Magnaflow cat for 3 years now and never had the code come up.

I'm going to get the ZZP down pipe and cat. How do I go about getting it tuned? Is there some software I order and load from my laptop? I would do the emulator, but I would think the tune would be better????

ZZP and Intense both do mail order tunes for the Bonneville. so you will need to send yours in and have it flashed or pay a retunable core charge and have one sent to you 1st.
