Trans problem

Post by slossei »

I just picked up a 94 bonneville se the car had to be warm in order to move in gear. I changed the tran filter and flushed also put lucas in it. It was fine for a day the next morning I tried to drive it. It didn't move what could be the problem? Thanks

If the fluid level is right, you most likely have a toasted trans. Time for a rebuild.....be sure it comes with a GOOD warranty.

IIRC, there is a valve inside the trans valve body that is sticking.

What did the old trans fluid look like? If it was brownish or stinky burnt, then clutch fiber material may be the root cause, indicating the need for a full rebuild. If it was still reddish-pink, not burnt smelling, then the problem is in the valve body, requiring a partial rebuild. You could get away with rebuilding the valve body and replacing the seals in the trans if you were able to fix it yourself, if nothing else were wrong after you pull it apart and inspect.

A shop would want to do a full rebuild.

Sometimes dropping it all the way to 1 and back up can make it go into gear cold. If it ain't slipping yet then there's still some life left in it.
