motor mount

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

motor mount

Post by deano55 »

I noticed the other day when I was trying to find where the exhaust leak was coming from, that the exhaust system flexed more than what I thought it should. A friend put the car in gear and while steping on the brake and throttle at the same time I could definantly see the flexing. How much is normal? A inch of down movement at the collector? Or is my motor mount in need of replacement at 70K?

With a bushing, barely noticeable. The only times you really feel it, in my car at least, is between 1400 and 1700 RPM.

Your local hardware and sporting goods store.

Threaded rod, nuts and a few hockey pucks.

I used polyurethane body bushings, then added a rubber body bushing on top of that to help isolate some vibration. You get just a tiny bit of vibration over stock, but IMO, the decrease in engine movement outweighs the very minor vibration you might feel. Actually helps suspension control and seems to decrease torque steer.

Do you have pictures? What about mc master carr? They have 3-4" polyurethane round stock in many hardnesses, do i want it as hard as a hockey puck or a little softer?

Here are some photo's of mine. I made it from some polyurethane body lift blocks. With the part on the top there is very little vibration.
