Getting serious

Post by harofreak00 »

Seems like I am always held back on my project cars when I am diagnosing. I can borrow a Tech2 from Marty's brother, but I have to drive 30 miles to get it, and I can't keep it very long. I decided that I needed my own. I went hunting for about a month, and bid on a few on ebay, but they all went over $1500. I started a nationwide craigslist search, but its hard to find a trustworthy person when we are talking about a $1000 non-face-to-face transaction. I finally found a dealership in PA selling their backup Tech2 for $800. Score!

No CANdi module, but I don't need that for any Bonneville.

When looking at Tech2's, you have to make sure its a real GM one, as their are MANY chinese clones. The clones kinda work, but they can't do a lot of the sophisticated stuff like reprogram modules.

The Tech II is a great tool. I have used Marty's a little, and it's incredible all the stuff it can do. This should serve you well Andrew.

I have seen these recommended as a VERY helpful tool.

But, can someone enlighten my a little more. What these can do? Or why so much more helpful than other scanners?

This is the GM scan-tool, the one used by every GM dealer across the nation. It can do everything from reading codes to re-programming modules, to testing modules and circuits, all from your lap. Whatever your dealer can do, this can do. The average gear-head doesn't need one, but for Andrew, it's a very helpful tool, instead of having to go to a dealer or borrow Marty's when he has to replace something on a car.

Definitely look into a the software disc for advanced programming, if you are at all interested in any custom programming. Matt and I don't have one (or a case for that matter), but it's getting very close.
Also I'm waiting for the guy who started DHP to come out with his latest programming software.... been hearing bits and pieces and all you need is a bluetooth obdii adapter and the software will be fairly reasonably priced b/c of the lack of need for them to invest in physical hardware for the sale of the software itself.
Supposedly is going to blow HPTuners out of the water and possibly will have a lot of other features the Tech 2 has. :dontknow:
