Rear 6x9s, Advice.
I'm looking to replace my rear 6x9s with JL audio C2-690tx speakers and was wondering if any of you installed these before? Opinions on JL audio? I currently have the stock monsoon sound system and the factory speakers sound...well...disappointing especially in the bass department. I will also be changing the door speakers, but just haven't decided what I'm going to go with there yet... Let me know what you think, thanks!

I always suggest saving the money you'd spend on rears and putting it towards better fronts. I'm not sure if you plan on using upgraded amplification or any subs either, as both of these will be facotrs in my advice.

Well now if I decide to keep the car, I would plan on changing out all the speakers, the head unit, and also getting an amp. Its just as of right now, my rears are in much worse shape than my front speakers as my front ones still sound pretty good minus a raddle coming from the door panel.yourgrandma wrote:I always suggest saving the money you'd spend on rears and putting it towards better fronts. Re: Rear 6x9s, Advice.
Are the rears blown? You mention in another topic that they make a horrible sound.
I have the monsoon system in my '03 and while it doesn't exactly sound like I have a set of 12s in the trunk with a big amp, I definitely wouldn't say the setup is lacking in the bass department especially for a stock system. Mine is fairly clear and loud, can pound out some decent bass as well.

Re: Rear 6x9s, Advice.
I don't believe they are blown... It's not so much that they make A horrible sound, they just produce horrible sound. Its almost as if I have no speakers in the rear, very quiet. I was just expecting a lot more out of a "premium" monsoon system.crash93ssei wrote:Are the rears blown? You mention in another topic that they make a horrible sound.

I am not looking for a ton of bass, just something I can enjoy when I feel like bumping it a bit. I plan on replacing the factory 6x9s with a set of JL Audio C2-690tx speakers. Hopefully that'll do the trick...

Re: Rear 6x9s, Advice.
That is pretty odd. I know they are set up so that the rear 6x9s are only subwoofers and the rear door speakers are full range.
I almost wonder if there is something going on there causing them to be quiet.
I know Jerry replaced the stock rear 6x9s in his GXP and was very happy.
*Edit*
Nevermind, it was his front speakers he replaced.

Re: Rear 6x9s, Advice.
Yeah I found it pretty odd, so I just figured I would avoid the problem and update them instead figuring aftermarket speakers are usually better anyway.crash93ssei wrote:That is pretty odd. I know they are set up so that the rear 6x9s are only subwoofers and the rear door speakers are full range.

Also, a little off topic, but do you know if our Bonnevilles accept double DIN HUs? Or would a ton of work have to go into it? Thanks for the help.

Re: Rear 6x9s, Advice.
Not sure myself on a double din, I haven't ever looked into replacing the stock head unit so never bothered to do much research on it. I believe it has been discussed here a few times before though.

Re: Rear 6x9s, Advice.
JL Audio is one of the best audio companies out there. I have noted that lately they have more of a budget lineup- so beware that it may not be the absolute best but since its JL it should be good still. My first real subs were JL's- W1 12's (there now you guys can date my experience).
99% of the people just simply dont understand or cant comprehend the makeup of a good sounding car.
My advice is to either run 6x9 woofers:

Or to find a nice two way 6x9:

These are nice also:

Because I'm keeping the stock head unit with no plans of upgrading any time soon, I do have to get creative with connecting to match the Monsoon setup. It will take some snipping, splicing, and soldering to have the woofer portion connected to the Monsoon amp, and the tweeter connected to the head unit output. It'll instantly kill the warranty, but I've voided worse! I'll report back on how that goes.

Have any of you actually looked at the guts of a stock amp?
