Caliper covers or painted calipers
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has caliper covers on their vehicle and, if so, where did you find them? Did some searching around and didn't have much luck.
If covers don't work, anyone have painted calipers? What type of paint did you use? Any suggestions? I was thinking a simple red to match badging, nothing crazy.
Thanks for any input.

Whats a caliper cover?
Ive painted mine,

I used the Dulpicolor hi-temp engine paint WITH ceramic. Held up nicely, they also have a caliper paint kit, it brushes on IIRC.

I've also seen them called Caliper Dust Covers. Just a piece of heavy duty plastic that goes over the caliper to protect it and give it some color. Looks like there are alot of scams out there but MGP or MPG makes some but they are approx. $200 for a set of four. Maybe painting is the best way to go?

Engine paint will not stand up to most brake cleaner products.
Use Dupli-Color CALIPER paint. It's epoxy-based and is impervious to brake cleaning solvents and brake fluid.

Re: Caliper covers or painted calipers
I think the caliper covers are way over priced for what you get. I've painted calipers on three different cars and they have all held up very well. Cleaning and prep are key to lasting results.
I used a wire brush on my drill to remove and surface rust and other build-up.
I then cleaned with mineral spirits and let dry.
Then a primer coat, let dry until tacky
Then color coat
I then wait a 2 hr minimum before re-assembly
I ordered rotors and pads for my car this week, so I'll be doing mine soon.

Re: Caliper covers or painted calipers
I would never cover up calipers with covers, they need to breathe, and be properly cooled by air moving through the wheels.

Re: Caliper covers or painted calipers
painting them isnt a hard job; and yes is the most feasible color!

alan, as much as we appreciate you going through the forum and reading, you don't have to post in every old thread you find interesting. The OP hasn't posted since May in here. Please leave old threads lying unless they're yours and you're updating them. If you really feel the need to comment on one or it helps you, start a new thread and link to the old one.
