180* t-stat
Why is a 180* t-stat considered a performance mod?

Re: 180* t-stat
It is done to keep the engine cooler, and help keep heat soaking down as much as possible. This mod also must be done in conjunction with adjustments to the fan turn on temperature as well, otherwise it will be pointless.

Not pointless. Call it less effective. Drilling a bypass hole is also commonly done to make the system work better.

Bypass hole is also great for bleeding the air out of the system as well.

Re: 180* t-stat
If you are going to do this, look at Intense's 180 T-stat. The opening is 50% larger and allows faster flow. Could be useful
(I have it)

Not quite 50% larger......

I don't remember the actual numbers I calculated/measured way back when, but it's something more along the lines of 50% more flow at best. Still a dramatic improvement over OEM and most other brands though.

Re: 180* t-stat
The "premium" DuraLast t-stat (costs about $8.xx or so) at AutoZone is the same Motorrad big-mouth thermostat that Intense sells. Don almost did a backflip when he yanked that stat out of my old LIM and found out it was available at AZ.
