quick wideband logging census??

Post by slickbonny »

ok ive seen a few here and there and just want some bacup opinions. ive needed a wideband for some time now. i wanted the Autometer Phantom to match my boost and fuel pressure gauges but im leaning to the LC-1 right now.

then i was planing on using it through the EGR connector(since my EGR is gone). but have read some problems. cuz i have HP Tuners standard.

so the 2 questions are:

which wideband?(Autometer or LC-1... dont want the UEGO as much as ppl back it up)

and

how should i hook it up?( through the EGR connector for standard, just solo and keep my eye on it, or get HPT Pro to log it)

I have the LC-1 Along with HPT Pro, and it works very good. I wouldn't suggest using the Narrowband simulation though. Plan on welding in a second bung for the wideband. It takes 15 seconds or so for the wideband to boot up when you start the car, and the car will run like *shoot* until it does if you're using the wideband for narrowband simulation.

If you can get it to work through the EGR I'd say go for it, otherwise see if you can sell your HPT Standard and upgrade to Pro.

k thanks man. i just looked at their site and u can send in the standard interface box with about $250 and they will send u the Pro.

how does the LC-1 hook up to the Tuner?

There is a plug with the tuner that you wire a ground and the output from the LC-1 into and it plugs into the tuner. I would try to use the EGR first, because that way you don't have to plug that into the tuner every time, you would be able to get A/F info through the OBDII port.

well i read this and it made me worry. Tommy Gloves post, second from the bottom...

i basically just want to be able to see the AFR on the gauge all the time while driving. andd also be able to hook it up to the tuner when scanning to save the logs.

what do u think i should do?

get an aeroforce gauge!

x2, you can run the output from the LC-1 into the Aeroforce as well. Take the money you save from not upgrading to HPT Pro, and get an Aeroforce and run the Wideband through the EGR for the Tuner.

hmm im a little confused here...

y do i need the Aeroforce if i have HP Tuner for scanning?

if i did get the LC-1, id prolly get it in the kit with the XD-16 gauge. r u suggesting to get the LC-1 cable and use the Aeroforce as the gauge?

i guess it would be nice to see maybe AFR and KR on the Aeroforce at all times while driving. but i kinda like the oscillating color on the outer edge of a wideband gauge. and im still unsure about using the EGR. how is yours wired?

I'm a n00b to tuning, so when you say use the EGR, would that just be where the EGR bolts into the header as your mounting, or using the EGR wiring to carry your signal?

use the Aeroforce as a daily scanning gauge. if you want the pretty xd-16, then use the aeroforce for kr and whatever else. it kinda depends where you are going to mount gauges also. on the 00+ people put them in the upper left air vent. more than 1 gauge and you probably want an a-pillar 2 gauge pod.

yes, using the egr wiring to get the wb signal into the pcm.

So then you just read the EGR reading coming from the PCM?

the tuner is programed to look for the wb signal on the egr input of the pcm.

I would get neither of the widebands you're considering. Auto-meter gives you no formula. People have issues hooking up the lc-1.

I have had good luck with the PLX in other vehicles, but personally run NGK.

Yes, just tap the 5v egr input to the pcm, and write a formula for this PID, or you can use A/D inputs.

ok, im gettin close to getting this all together for spring. so im liking and leaning more toward the aeroforce now. since i already have 2 gauges in my car(boost and fuel pressure). only have room for 1 more(the middle top vent).

so if i got the Aeroforce, what would i need to get to monitor my AFR?

just the basic LC1 kit here without the gauge?:

http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/xcar ... 9d6229ac84

and then plug 1 of the analog outputs into the Aeroforce?

Yes, if you get the aeroforce, you can buy the LC-1 without the gauge.
