need help fast wont start

Post by trf_ssei »

Hey guys been a while since ive posted or been on the computer period, but anyways here's my problem. The car has been running pretty rough for quite a while. but always started good and its something to drive. but i pulled out of a parking lot today and stepped it down hard and the car was surging and missing(sounded like) and all of a sudden died. i tried restarting it several times and the first couple times it fired but wouldn't start, after that it wouldn't even fire at all. i have pressure at the rail, all 3 coils were just replaced 2 weeks ago and it was a big improvement in run-ability. I don't know where to look next. the car has 380 000 km on it and will soon be retired but i need it for at least another 6 months. what else can i look at or test or anything. please help. thanks in advance.

Sounds like it might be an injector, if you have dvm check resistance on them if you can get to the connectors. They should probably all be around 14.0 ohms +/- 1.0.

more to add, i have spark and fuel. I think my plugs are fouled now causing it not to fire at all. its to dark now to check the resistance on the injectors, although i don't see it completely stalling from one or even two injectors . i wont be able to check anything until after 3 tomorrow but i am open to as many suggestions as possible until then.

Hold the accelerator to the floor while starting. If it starts, let off the accelerator. If it starts, see if it will idle at all.

One crapped injector will shut down the system. If you find a bad reading on one, unplug it and it will run...on 5 cylinders if necessary.

I'll try that but i should also add that i checked for injector pulse on cyl #3 via the 194 bulb method and it was lighting fine, does that change anything?

Just means that injector is getting current. One injector will not cause the whole engine to not run, but it will run like CRAP.

On the early 90's 1st generation gm a start/stall no start would be a single injector..... a bad injector killed the whole circuit. Not the same on these years?

Can you check for voltage from the crank and cam sensor(s) at the ignition module while someone turns the ignition? Wires may be Crank-Yellow and Cam-BRN/WHT.

Have you checked for spark at the plugs? Do the lamp check on the injectors and a fuel pressure check.

How was the spark checked? At the plugs or coils. All of them or just one. Was the fuel pressure checked with a gauge or just by pressing the shrader valve.

Also check connections and harness to cam nd crank sensors and check connectio. To ICM.

Also, try disconnecting the MAF and see if it will then start.

I checked the spark at the plug, just one. And i just pressed the shrader valve for fuel pressure. but i pulled the three front plugs and they were all fuel soaked so i changed all the plugs and tried ether again, nothing didn't even fire.

How do i do that just use a common ground and test each wire with my positive lead?
