Cougars!

Post by WhiteArrow3800 »

And just to clarify...not the kind with two legs, but the kind with four wheels!

First, here's my dad's project. It's basically done, (Well done never happens with projects like this, but there are two main goals left.) Big-Block and paint. Though before the bigblock comes he has a built 302 ready besides the heads. He had the engine in before but the machine show screwed him over on the head work. The guy never put the ID locators in for dad's double spring setup, so the valve springs were able to slide around. This resulted in 6 broken springs that went through the engine, and two bent valves, as well as ruined heads. But even as it was that 302 would fly, so I'm waiting for it to go back in and be built correctly! Anyway, with the 302 pulled out the 'ol 289 went back in. He has a custom ground cam and a roller setup that requires head work, so once the money comes in the next big change will be the 302 going back in. Then searching for the top end for the 428cj short block he has on the shelf. Then paint, which it needs really bad, the pictures don't show it, but it's a 20 foot paint job, unless it's in the shade or wet, then it's maybe a 10 footer, lol.

Anyway a few pics:

Yesterday several guys in the Delmarva Cougar Club got together near Richmond and cruised to Jamestown where my dad and I met up with them. We hung around there for a while chatting then got on the Colonial Parkway and cruised down to Yorktown and had lunch. Most of them being from Richmond or DC went back home after lunch. While we went to a Bike & Car show nearby that was pretty cool. It was hosted by a bike club, so well over 200 bikes must have showed up, and 26 cars, but 26 very nice cars.

6 Cougars, a GT500 and a Solstice

To be completely honest too, I really like your dads the best out of the rest of those.... the color does it for me :hail:

I like your dads the best too but I think it's the painted roof that does it for me. Never been much of a vinyl fan.

Thanks guys, he appreciates the compliments!

And Tracy, lol, if you ever do make a stop here in Virginia I'm sure he'd have no problem with you going for a ride!

Rader wheels? Did you mean the rear wheels?

In any case, he had those made and as far as we know they are still only set like this. Dad ordered these and there are NO plans to change them. The company is Specialty Wheels, they remake just about any stock muscle car wheel with or without beauty rims or any size/offset. These are a Cougar only style wheel. He ordered 15" to fit disc brakes in, and 10" deep rears. The only thing he will be doing is probably having the axle shortened again to tuck the rears like he wanted. He think about the size of the brake caliper and the wheel wouldn't clear it so he had to put spacers in.
