Since the bad news of a bad motor, I just got more. The cam is bent. Options are:
1. New Intense S1x cam
2. Go back to stock
3. Fix this one if possible

Video of bend:

Now for the good news. Found a local place (local to Bill, but close enough to me) said they will take a look and see if they can straighten it.

If it can't be fixed, he will custom grind one. In the meanwhile, things are on hold until next week when I can run it down to him.

You owe me another beer. Redline cams and cranks is nearly a legend around here. Then again, my tip didn't buy me much time on your supercharger!

On that note, I just cracked the magnetic plug we installed in the nosedrive a year and a half ago. You just told me via text that you checked it in November. This is the LEAST amount of particles on one that I've seen in the 5 years I've been installing these in my own cars and other members. Well over a dozen at least. Granted, these bearings have already had their initial wear, but in my experience, there's typically 3-5 times as much debris when these are installed on used bearings. This was a good supercharger for the long haul.

Bearings are being replaced regardless. With the magnetic plug, the particles from the initial break-in of the new bearings won't circulate and cause more wear over time. The plan was to have Tyler crack the case (so he could experience the rank smell he doesn't know about), but I promised him when we ran out of time this past weekend that if I tore it down, he'd reassemble it. He's a sponge for new knowledge, and it'll be a good experience for him. I'll probably drain the oil tonight, and MIGHT break it down and start cleaning for porting/bearing removal/coating.

I'll post pics of the debris on the plug a little later.

Looking good. That looks like a nice workbench in the corner. It will come in handy, I know I love having mine.

Was there any play in the coupler? I still want to use the new one, but just wondering. The crud on the magnet is about the same amount I cleaned off in November.

Don't worry about the time. It will be a few weeks before I am ready for it at this end. Ordering parts on Friday and getting cam fixed on Monday. I will work on the power steering line and trans cooler line this week.

Wow Matt... Something either impacted the cam, or the cam impacted a valve and came to a brutal stop... You may end up with a regrind

I can actually see on the #3 intake lobe where the rod must have smacked it when it was flopping around. It didn't damage the lobe, I was able to wipe the gray matter off. I think the hardening of each lobe saved it. He told me he can measure out this cam and give me a custom grind with the same specs if this one can't be straightened.

Darn good thing you checked that cam Matt. Will the reverse engineered/fabbed cam cost less than a new one?

Bill, I see Lisa drank the Nut Brown Ale. I hope it knocked her socks off.......and not other undergarments. LOL
Good work Lisa. You handled that air ratchet like a pro. Darn you're good!

It's about 50 to straighten, and about 150 to make a regrind to the specs of the bent cam (without the bend of course).

What sucks is that it's in Albany. A ton more convenient for me than Matt, but I don't have the cam here!

Because of my work week being Wed through Friday, I will not know for sure until Monday. I will call him ahead and he said he will reserve time to work on it while I am there so I don't have to make a return trip. This is a small 2 man shop that does nothing but cam and crank grinding.

Matt I don't know why, but my Gut tells me to go with a regrind.. I just don't see how that cam can be brought back to 100% true.... If they do a regrind will they simply use a stock cam or start with a Blank? Either way I see that cam as trophy material

I agree with Don. New or regrind. Personally I'd go with new if the price is close.

TB studs, BCA, BCS removed from the supercharger housing. Discovered a pretty severe vacuum leak at the o-ring for the vacuum tree. It was pinched and folded over. I have a replacement for it. All big pieces of gasket debris are removed.

Getting ready to clean up the housing and begin cutting the bolt bosses out of the outlet, and roughing things in.

Ready for a little scrubbing so I don't have to breathe EGR/PCV carbon while porting:

Now pay attention to these two pics. This is a boring misalignment after the rough casting is milled through to create the inlet. I've seen worse on the Gen3 M90's, and this one comes in a little worse than average. This is a disruption to the natural air flow, and is literally costing a couple horsepower or more. This will be corrected during porting:

Next up (tomorrow) is popping the needle bearings out of the case. I'll detail that step-by-step here, even though it's well documented on my supercharger page (red link in my signature).

Stainless Steel coolant plugs anyone?
Be sure to use some red RTV when sealing those plugs.
There is galvanic potential between aluminum and stainless so the aluminum will become the anode and corrode. I used brass plugs for that reason. A little less potential. Filled the void between the top of the plug head and the gasket with RTV. Might not matter too much as leakage is a remote possibility and even if it does, who cares, it's internal.

Aren't you going to give him some nice socket head stainless cap screws for the SC? [-(

Wow that TB inlet IS bad! Work your magic Zilla!! :hail:
