To just read the fault codes just about any compatible with OBD II will work. None will read the body or abs codes. You can pick them up at any local parts stores, e-bay and many other online retailers. If you want to install something permanent, you can do the Aeroforce gauge which would also allow you to monitor real time data. I am running the Aeroforce in my 2k because all my others are the OBD I system.

ScanGauge II is less than the Aeroforce and will read codes/display live data. Either is a good choice to read codes and read live data in an easy-to-use device.

It might also be worth noting that if you do not expect to need a scanner often, many chain auto parts stores (such as AutoZone or O-Reillys) will do an OBD-II scan for free as a customer service (using a hand scanner). AutoZone (any maybe the others too) will then give you a printout of the code that you can take with you. The printout will also contain an explanation of what the code means and a short discussion of what might need to be fixed/replaced.

Ken, when we refer to a "scanner" we mean a device that shows real time data such as Fuel Trims, RPM, O2 sensor readings, and most importantly to most of us, Knock Retard. Autozone and other stores have "Code Readers" which is fine for the average person who has a CEL/SES/MIL.

Ah -- I learned something new today. (And maybe a few future lurkers will as well.) Sorry to interrupt the thread.

Back to scanners!
