2000 SLE A/C only passenger side cools

Post by tothfngclw »

2000 SLE had no a/c. Checked freon level found low but within parameters on gauge. Added 1 can. Cools on passenger side but drivers side blows warm. This is not electronic controlled. Any help would be appreciated.

Try adding more freon. The passenger side being cooler than the driver's side is one of the symptoms of low refrigerant. If that takes care of things, you may want to start looking for a leak.

I agree with more refrigerant needed. Our '03 has a leak and does the same thing when the refrigerant is low.

Ok I will gove it a try. I'm using a single gage from a a/c recharge kit that I have had sitting around for a couple of years. It was showing the pressure at just a hair under what they term alert. So I was assuming that the system was charged after adding a can. However this same gage showed the system to be full enough to operate when I first connected it, it was just on the low side of the operating parameters. The line did not start sweating until after I added the can of freon though. I have experience in operating and maintaining everything from 200 ton chilled water a/c plants, residential units and commercial refer units but my automotive knowledge is lacking. It would help if I had gages for high and low sides.

I just went through this a few weeks back; I couldn't find my dads gauge set at my moms so I ended up using an entire can with one of the 'color coded' gauges -- At first I didn't add enough either; but considering the car was 10 years old this past March, I figured that it was very well due for a top off!

Its ice cold now though.. Thankfully with the heat we've been having..
