Egg in Radiator

What size is the sse radiator 1" or 1-3/8 and does it have the eng. oil cooler?

Pull the plastic shroud (the one with all the stickers on it) off the radiator (remove the top bolts for the fans too or it won't come off) and measure the core. You will know if you have a oil cooler, just look on the driver's side of the radiator. If you have 2 fairly large pipes going in, you have the oil cooler.

Sorry, I ask I lot of newbie questions, but I just like to be reassured. I figure the 1-3/8 could fit.

Yeah, it'll fit. Thicker cores are better in general.

Back in when Aston martin still built quality cars (not just upmarket Fords) every new V-8 would leave the factory with a can of "Bars" in it....

They DID try that out in Mythbusters and it turned out to be plausible, it did stop the leak in their test. However this is a temporary solution in the case of an emergency if you are in the middle of the road and need to get home. Obviously not a permanent solution.

Um, how many people carry eggs with them on long drives? raise your hands... anyone?
Seems like it would be a good idea if you popped a radiator near a chicken farm but you would still have to steal an egg without getting shot by the farmer. Just fix it the right way and you will never have to post about using an egg for repairs ever again.

You need to chill out. It wasn't realized until later in the thread that the authoring poster was serious about sticking an egg in the radiator. To me it was a hypothetical question that got its answer:

Can you stop a leak with an egg? Probably yeah.

Now is it a good idea? Hell no.

Nevermind the semantics of actually finding an egg wherever one may be...

All right. We have a farm truck, a 67 chevy 4x4, and i put an egg in the radiator because it had a pinhole leak. It held for 3 days on the farm without leaking, and we used it quite a bit.

Answer: Yes, it will stop a small leak. However, it is not a permanent solution, and only works on smaller leaks, not a busted tube or anything else, just a patch to keep all of your fluid from leaking out while on your way home from the grocery store (hence the Egg) or anywhere else.

the problem is that you have to VERY comprehensively flush the system once you've contaminated it with...an egg.

I wonder......if you put egg in the radiator to stop a leak, and you find that it's the Head Gasket that is leaking, does the exhaust have that rotten egg smell???
