I ended up making quick work of the fogs after I made my last post. Here is how they were:

Image
Image

The hardest part was the outside ring because its inset. I had to use 150 grit there to get all the black tint off.

Both done

Also, these were the only scratches on the entire car. I took some ScratchX and the powerball to also.

Seems like the powerball does a good work on the paint. I'll have to pick up one.

I just yanked the carpet outta my 92 and am about to go to the car wash. What carpet cleaning product did you use? And did you scrub at all, or do you just spray some soap, and then hit it with the hose?

Time I was running low on cleaner, so I just used the "foaming brush" at the manual car wash. I got as much foam on the carpets as I could and then got on my hands and knees and scrubbed with a brush on the end of the can like this.

Image

I spent at least 20 minutes just scrubbing.... its worth it. Scrub in all directions

I brought along 2 ladders and 2 long boards and set them up on the bed of my truck. Then I laid the carpets over them. Then powerwash it with the rinse until you don't have any more soap or dirt coming out of the carpet. Be careful not to get to close to the carpet with the power washer or you will ruin the carpet. 8" is the closest I would go.

Then I brought the carpets home and let them dry for 2 days. The 92-99 carpet will dry faster because there is no foam on the back, just the rubber mat.

Do you have some lines in the carpet now? Thats too bad.

Today I worked on getting the calipers back to black from their red/orange look. Ended up putting new pads in the rear, the fronts were still good.

Also replaced the ELC sensor as it was broken. Don't mind the dirty wheels, they will be cleaned up when the new tires are put on. I think the black calipers made it look so much better. Red on tan just isn't for me.

Got my hood delivered by a family member that happened to be coming through the area... saved myself about $60 in gas. Paid $175 for the hood, its in great shape, no hood herpes.

This thing is looking fantastic! You did an excellent job on the headlights and fogs as well, I knew you would :)

I can't wait to see the final result! I hope to have time in the spring to completely tear apart the '03 and do this kind of deep cleaning to it, it needs it BAD

Chameleons change color to match the environment...not exactly what this one is doing yet.

No....this one should be named Harley Quinn. Because VW really did such a thing...

Today I decided to work on the heated seats. I based my work off of Archon’s writeup: http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... =18&t=6022
I pulled the front of the seat cover on both seats and didn’t see any burn marks. I put everything back together and threw in the towel. At that point, I was thinking it was either the seat back, the module, or some other small wire that I wouldn’t find.
Then later in the day I got a second wind and pulled the entire seat out. I took off the bottom section.
Image
Image
I started with the biggest connection area and cut back some of the foam. I was pleasantly surprised to find a broken wire.
Image
I took some alligator clips and put them on the wires.
Image
And then closed off the circuit to the seat back connection.
Image
And hooked it up in the car.
Image
And what do you know… it works….
Image
So then I soldered some solder wick onto the wires
Image
Image
And covered it up
Image

Now to the drivers side. I decided that I wasn’t going to pull the whole seat out, just the bottom. Only 2 – 10mm nuts hold it in place.
Image
After disconnecting all the connections, you have the bare seat bottom.
Image
Then remove the foam/leather from the base.
Image
And the leather from the foam.
Image
Here is the section that was bad on the passenger one…
Image
And this one has the same problem.
Image
Image
Here is the burnt end of the wiring buried deep in the foam
Image
The other connection was good still
Image
Starting the soldering
Image
Leave a little slack
Image
Tape it up
Image
Both seats work great!

Nice work, Andrew. It appears as if there are multiple stress points with the heated seats, any one of which could cause problems. Good find.
