Hi, new member here with a 1999 SuperCharged SSEi

Post by KLSuperCharged »

I have 77k miles on this car, and have had it since about 30k. Last year I bought a flowthrough muffler and was pleased I could tell there was an improvement in the acceleration from the seat of my pants.

I just had the sc serpentine belt come off due to a failed idler pulley and noticed the boost gauge was not going above zero, so popped hte hood, and there was the belt. I really noticed how in the low to mid rpms the engine didn't have the pop that it had with the sc. It really feels doggy without the sc pumping.

Should get it back tomorrow and can put some metal to the pedal.

Would like to upgrade the air filter an air intake system...will I see the same sort of performance improvement I saw with the flow through muffler?

Thanks.

1st mod was a flowthru muffler.
2nd mod will be a high flow air intake.
3rd mod could be headers/cat back system.

Welcome!

To be honest with you, the seat of the pants improvement you felt with the muffler was mostly because of the sound. Our exhaust systems actually flow very well, and for a stock or even lightly modded Bonneville, a muffler will be a sound improvement only unless it was broken or plugged.

As for the intake, you will get an actual gain from that in both power and mileage, although it will not be a huge gain. I can tell you that the sound alone is well worth any money spent on an intake though.

Stick around and it won't be long before you do all the work yourself on your car and save yourself a bunch of money that can be spent on better things, like more mods

Welcome!! See my post in your other thread about maintenance, but not only do you save money doing it yourself, you feel good, and you know what's going on with your car. When I first joined here, I was afraid of doing plugs and wires, but in January I did my own LIM gaskets, and now work at a repair shop doing oil changes, tires, etc.
