Is my A/C done for?

Post by Phyrestorm »

My A/C started blowing warm air for a few days now and im getting around to recharging it today but I noticed when I turned on the A/C to max air and coldest, popped my hood and I think either the compressor or clutch knocking? I hear a knock every few seconds...

What could it be? I rather not waste my can of refrigerant for nothing...

Is it a knock or a click?

When the clutch engages, it will make a click sound and that is normal, but it isn't really a knock.

Sounds more like a knock to me but I can be mistaken... Well it'll click or knock for a min or so and then stop doing it eventually

Well, the only time the clutch will make the click sound is when it engages and when it disengages, that is it. If the clutch is already engaged and you are hearing clicking / knocking sounds, something probably isn't right.

Is the noise there all the time, or only when the clutch is engaged or disengaged?

It'll only do that in the first couple of mins when I engage the A/C.

Well I tried putting refrigerant in and the knocking/clicking started immediately, I think I'll just have to take it to the shop :(
