is this normal?

Post by RookieSSei »

Okay sometimes when I start my car the rpm hand jumps right to 2000rpm if I put the car n gear I get a hard thrust like the engine is about too by jump out of the car but if I wait a couple sec and let it drop to under 1500 It shift fine ? Also I noticed once I put it in gear I can coast without giving it gas 500 to 1000 feet no gas what is causing this ?

Sounds like you are pretty rough on your car!

Everytime you start the car, wait for the idle to smooth out before putting it in gear. Ususally 5-10 seconds. NEVER put it in gear at 2000 RPMs.

It is normal for the car to coast if youi don't hold the brake.

if you are coming from an older car, especially carbureted ones, the ease with which these cars coast is strance

First, unplug the IAC with the engine off. Plug it back in and then start the car. Also, check the TPS. It should be around .4 or .5 volts with the throttle closed and should increase to around 5 volts with the throttle fully open. With an idle issue, you will be most concerned with the .4 volts at closed throttle.

The IAC shouldn't cause a rough idle, but a vacuum leak could. Have you checked for a leak? It could affect idle speed, too. While there are codes that could be set for a bad TPS, it doesn't always set one.

yeah i did i dont know whats wrong with this car somedays it dirves perfect shifts fine . then somedays it sucks i feel like it's not the trans it's been rebuild 3x i think it's something thats connected with the trans like a sensor or something. it bucks under load wot mostly during wot and when i turn corners like braking and then giving it gas . I can trigger it like clock work a sudden slow down at a light then give it some gas and it bucks or shift hard into gear . I just dont know somebody told me it could be the tps going bad idk i just want this fixed

Sounds like a job for a really good honest mechanic. Do you trust the shop that did the work? If not then just take it to the nearest dealership and let them give it the once over. Sounds like you have more issues than you can diagnose here w/o someone testing and being there at the vehicle. The bestest mostest importante tool you could ever have is a good honest mechanic.
