No torque converter lockup or cruise control, shifter lock..

Post by Tony94 »

1994 Bonnie SLE
Concurrent malfunctions: Torque converter never locks, cruise control doesn't work, shifter safety lock solenoid clicks on every brake pedal press/release even while driving (I never noticed that before so I think that is abnormal).

All the above failed at once, came back one day, haven't worked since. Any ideas as to what the problem may be?

I was thinking stuck brake switch until you mentioned the solonoid, but then I wonder how the vehicle, electrically anyway, knows where the gear selector is. Is it through the Neutral Safety switch?

I finally got in under the hood to check things out (Cuz someone told me my brake lights were not working!). The neutral safety switch is sensitive: it makes a difference whether is tightened down or not. My "field" fix of the switch gave it different characteristics and standard adjustment does not apply. And I didn't check the brakelights before I put away the tools (they worked while adjusting though!). I readjusted the switch and now have brakelights and torque converter lockup after a new adjustment procedure given the situation. I still have a cruise control inop problem though (I think, I test drove with the vacuum release line off tonight, but I don't think that would prevent the cruise control from activating).

(Aside: note that my '94 has 2 switches at the brake pedal: tcc/abs and stoplight (as far as I can tell by diagnosis)).

What the fook is this?

BTW...neutral safety switch adjustment has absolutely nothing to do with brakelights. Not even on the same circuit.
2005 GXP - White Gold Pearl, no mods...yet.
2000 SSEi - Resurrection in progress. Built L67 w/L32 fuel rail, ported heads, and cam. Camaro front brake system, GXP cluster, and much more in planning.

I assure you that you are wrong. The neutral safety switch incorporates the backup light switching. I posted in 1994, yes? I have a 1994 Bonnie. It DOES TESTABLY control the backup lights. (This is an example of a NOISE post that would be eliminated on a knowledge-based site, btw).

Cool your jets dude. I mentioned NOTHING about back-up lamps. I mentioned BRAKE lamps in my last post, to correct what you stated in your first one.
