I have a 2002 SLE withh electronic climate control. The fan motor is not working but the fan level indicator shows fully on. After driving a bit the fan does come back on and works like it is supposed to. This has occurred 3 times now and since I live in a hot climate - South Carolina - I need to know what is up with this.

This sounds like the blower motor itself is not connecting electrically. When your car hits a bump or moves it causes the rotor inside the fan motor or the connections in the leads outside to make contact and it starts running. A good check is when it's not running and the key is ON, tap your foot up against the bottom of the blower motor part of the housing just to the right of the driveline tunnel. The blower will start.

Three screws and a connector and an air tube that cools the rotor. Check the connector for burned contact. My 03 had brushes inside the motor that didn't make contact; the one brush was sticking in its slide.

I used a replacement motor from Autozone because they stock them. Other box stores were happy to order them in for delivery in two days. I did have to go to another metro Autozone because only two stores actually had not sold theirs.

I have seen a few in the 2000+ crowd (including our '03 SSEi) have a loose connection at the blower motor, ours was loose enough to start melting the connector itself. I had to remove the wires from the plug and crimp them down better to get a better connection on the blower motor.
