On my dads Supercharged Park Ave. he went to the gas station and had a heart attack when he saw the total. $70. The gas station lady said that maybe filling with 87 and using an octane booster would be ok. It would be cheaper according to her. I told him that didn't sound like a good idea. What do you guys think?

bad idea, most of the octane boosters have particles in them that can clog the injectors
(well the cheap ones, the better ones aren't worth it, cuz you can just get 93)
just stick to 93, its pricey but better off :beerchug:

No.

Octane boosters only raise it by....let's say 5 points, which would make 87 octane become 87.5. if you want GOOD octane boosters, expect to pay $12+ for a bottle, and in the reality of the situation, you aren't saving any money at all. Tell him to use the premium if he values his car.

Octane booster doesnt do what you think it does. When it says it increases octane by 5 points, it does not increase 87 octane to 92 octane, it increases it to 87.5

Waste of money, stick to Premium. If you can't afford the fuel for a premium sucking car, you shouldn't be driving it. Sell it for an N/A.

We can afford it alright. Its just well when we bought the car 3 years ago. It cost about $40 to fill the tank and now its almost $75 and it might be a little bit of sticker shock.

Another thing that hurts is that my moms 87 Mercedes also requires premium so 2 out of 3 cars in our household require premium gas.

Premium isn't really all that bad... It is only about $4 extra on a total fill up vs. using regular 87 octane.

You know I never really thought of it that way. Basically it is like buying an extra gallon of regular unleaded. But on the other hand. When you think about it the extra cost can really start to add up.

I saw an Octane Booster that SAID it increased by 60 points, or 6 full numbers. Is this total BS?

It was NOS Octane Booster, and it was ~$10 a ~9oz. bottle.

its been $3-$4 more for premium for years now...even when 85 was $1.50, 87 was $1.60, 91 was $1.80..nothing has changed.

I filled up tonight at the Mobil in Fx, it was $.16 more per gallon than REGULAR, that is better than most, where it is 10 cent gaps between each, and $.20 between reg. and premium.

I would stick with premium fuel. You can spend $70 on premium fuel or $65 for regular and $8 or more for fuel additives plus add the chance of clogging your injectors which may kill you MPG's.

I know, i try to fill up w/ premium, but some stations only have 87 or some around here have 89, due to ethanol.
