Northstar question

Ref: 2010 DTS case split re-sealing

Instead of using ready-made molded rubber gaskets for case split, oil pan, and oil pan bed plate, some of the Youtubers are using only RTV to fill in the entire grooves and are claiming GM recommends this.

Was this a 90’s thing and is there any advantage I’m not ...

Re: How To Repair Door Related Water Leaks.

Just a suggestion for those having trouble getting the brand of Butyl posted
Never used that but I have always had good luck long term with the 3M window weld ribbon sealer. It is usually easy to get locally or on line.
I try to get smaller but have used up to 3/8" dia without problems.
Also had ...

Re: A/C leak question

^^ X2 ^^
Only leak I had was on compressor body found by UV dye. I believe it was the big O-ring sealing the 2 halves of compressor.

Just needed to clean out debris and lubricate.

Interior swap considering HUD

I have been looking for a replacement for the SSEI that is not as rusty and have come across a decent one I am considering. The interior color/ condition is not quite as good as mine and i'm considering swapping interiors if I get it. Both are 03 SSEI’s but the other car does not have HUD option and ...

Water Leak

What is the most likely source of a water leak that shows up in the battery tray trying to make battery float?
Car is parked on flat ground not being driven. Mainly notice after torrential rains.
Other areas are dry when I get around to checking on it.
There is a little surface rust near bolt on ...

My 92 had EGR.
I always thought it was a mid-year change.
Didn't some 92's also have Magnavox ignition?

Did you change plug wires?
Also I may be wrong but I vaguely remember GM saying changing EGR needs a CASE learn to initially set new one.

Re: P0420 wont go away!

Since it struggles up hills, it makes me think you have some kind of ignition system issue. Is there any other indication of troubles? Does it feel good when you're WOT?

I have had ignition problems cause a P0420 before.
With your mileage, if your plug wires are original you may want to consider ...

Have you checked the idler pulley & the tensioner pulley on the SC belt train?
It is very common for bearings in these to go bad.

I found another '02 head unit, swapped the internal CDs and it worked fine.

To save the Tech2 charge you can see if Andrew has a head unit from a Bonneville close to yours and swap ...

Re: Well this is interesting

In regard to mileage and platinum:
Back in the early 90's with my 92 L27, I didn't believe the 100k mile claim in the manual. I ran the original platinums to see how long they would last. They survived to 100k and were beyond done at 150k.

On my '00 and'03 L67s, I ran original platinums to 120~125k ...

Well this is interesting

A few months back, I had a bad spark plug wire on the 03. They were the 7mm Beldens for series 2.
My 93 had 8mm Beldens for series 1 that were put on just before I wrecked it. Rather than getting a new set of 7mm's, I grabbed the front three 8mm ones (rear ones were smashed against firewall).
It ran ...

Re: Freeze plugs need help!

It may be possible to have this gasket leak water in oil but I have never heard of it or have seen any posts about it.

Intake does not have to come off. Just pull engine, unbolt flex plate and drop oil pan.
Twice I pulled engine to do it and one time when having transmission work done, the shop let ...
