Could it be a bad throttle position sensor? That might cause a bad bog since the throttle is letting in more air before the PCM gets the MAF signal saying to inject more fuel to compensate.
Based on how you put it, that sounds like it could be a possibility. I've considered that too but haven't ...

Re: 2000 ssei clatter with low boost.
I still don't understand how people get to using the wrong octane in premium-demanding cars (unless they're just the average Joe who thinks gas is gas and premium is a marketing scheme or power-adder). I looked at a '92 SSEi once with low miles and a clean exterior/interior, but after hearing an ...

Re: Car bogs upon acceleration
That's what I was referring to when I said ICM (ignition control module). I have not attempted replacing it yet though the coils are new. I've suspected it as one of several possibilities for awhile now, but haven't gotten around to checking it yet. It'll likely be the next thing I check into though.

I'm willing to bet no on that one. My suggestion is find another similar year Bonneville with clean carpeting and swap it in.

Re: 6 speed manual Bonneville?
I think it's a neat concept, but at the same time, I don't think a manual transmission suits a nice big luxury car like the Bonneville all that well, but that's just me.

Re: Car bogs upon acceleration
Well, new crank sensor hasn't made a lick of difference either. As before, the car bogs on startup once (the RPMs will surge down once before going back to normal idle speed), and the car feels like it's choking/bogging when I give it gas from speed to downshift usually. This seems more prevalent ...

Re: marvel mystery oil
The old guy I work with at the shop who maintains the company vans and various other stuff SWEARS by it. Claims it completely quieted a bunch of valvetrain clatter that one of the vans had (all Chevy's and GMCs). Granted, he said it did it over time with successive oil changes. I personally don't ...

Hey....I was going to use post that....
I agree though. I'm doing a very similar setup to that one, plus a 3'' downpipe. I'll keep the old resonator and the Magnaflow cat.

Re: Gear shifter
I personally think you should let the car come to a complete stop first rather than shifting it into drive while in a backwards roll, even if slow. I don't know, just me. I don't think anything that makes a transmission go "clunk" or jolt into gear is good for it, so since it's easy to avoid doing ...

Find the part you want, then check Amazon for that part number. I've ordered a number of parts from Amazon for cheaper prices than most places.

Well, I never go for show-car quality, so I just do a nice wipe-down on the main stuff people see.

I ordered a direct-fit Magnaflow unit for my '98 from Amazon for about 120 bucks. Not a bad deal, IMO.

Re: overheating
Bob called and confirmed my initial suspicion that the water pump was the source of the leak. Since it's at his shop right now, I'm letting him do the work. So, a new water pump and new crank sensor (sensor supplied by me) and then I should be able to pick it up. Hopefully tomorrow.

Re: Fuel pump
I'm sure I've heard things similar to that. I've heard that running the fuel low exposes the pump and it runs hotter, thereby wearing it out quicker, but I honestly don't know and would take that little tidbit of information with a grain of salt. Could just be a mechanical myth.

Re: overheating
Well, I checked the coolant this morning before work and it was, of course, low. I topped it off and drove to work without it overheating once. Did the same after work after checking and topping off and no overheating, so I know it was due to low coolant from a leak. I have it in the shop now to ...

Re: overheating
Well, I'll refill with coolant before heading to work tomorrow and keep a jug on hand if I should need it. At least if nothing else, I can KEEP it from overheating until I figure out and fix the issue. I'll have to check that stuff tomorrow though.

Well, all I could see for sure was that the crank sensor area was soaked and not really anything else.
