6 speed manual Bonneville?

Post by 1fatcat »

Anyone given any thought to converting a Bonneville to a manual transmission car? The F40 6 speed from a G6 will mate to the 3800. I know someone did this swap on a grand prix already. Don't get me wrong, it's not a direct swap. Lots of custom stuff is involved.

A lot of people have come on here and given it a thought. I think it would be awesome. I wish somebody would go for it! Haha. But that's interesting that that trans will match up to the 3800.

I was on the old forum since 03 iirc and never saw that.

The closest was a Reatta.

I think it's a neat concept, but at the same time, I don't think a manual transmission suits a nice big luxury car like the Bonneville all that well, but that's just me.

It's been discussed before, and other options exist as well. A Gertrag 5-speed will bolt up as well. Fabrication for the clutch will still be necessary, as well as programming out the transmission from the PCM.

If you're talking about the GPONA one, they cut/welded the axle so it was only a matter of time.

Here is a link to a kid and his buddies that did it in a 1997 GP GT sedan. They made a parts list to complete the swap also after all of their trial and error was over with that is at the beginning of the thread. Looks like a fun winter project.

On you tube you can find a 1999 GTP that has a Norhtstar and a 6 speed in it. Cant find the link right now though.

Told the guys last night I'd like to put ls1, six speed, and make it a rear wheel drive. A lot of work but it would be unique.

You could just buy a G8 GXP and not have the headaches

They have the northstar? If so, then no. Don't like those motors at all.

And the whole purpose is to be unique. Kind of like putting an ls1 in a Geo tracker, its different. That's the point.

G8 GXP

2009 Pontiac G8 GXP
A G8 GXP version was shown at the New York International Auto Show in March 2008 with a 6.2 L (376 cu in) [11]402 hp (300 kW) V8 from the Chevrolet Corvette and a six-speed manual transmission.[14] The production version of the GXP was more powerful with its LS3 V8 producing 415 hp (309 kW) and 415 ft·lbf (563 N·m) of torque. Both the six-speed Tremec TR-6060 manual transmission and the six-speed automatic transmission were available. The GXP reached 60 mph (97 km/h) from a standstill in 4.5 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 13.0 seconds at nearly 110 mph (180 km/h), and 0.90g (8.8 m/s2) of lateral acceleration on a skidpad.[15]
The GXP has an upgraded, Nürburgring-tuned FE3 suspension package, as well as larger, ventilated Brembo disc brakes. It also features a unique front bumper cover and a rear (non-functional) diffuser to differentiate it from the standard Sedan and GT models.
Total sales of the Pontiac G8 GXP were 1,829 units. [16] The GXP was not available in Canada.
On a side note
Exhaust routing is gonna be one issue you are going to run into.

Oh and not to mention making a trans tunnel is gonna be a PITA. I wouldn't wanna mess with having to try and fab that up under our dashes.

How many years have you been welding?

Regardless of how hard it would be its an idea I've had. As I've stated, its about being creative and unique.

The g8 gxp sounds nice.

It would def be creative and unique. That's what I wantd to do with my car when I first got it. But the cold truth is it would take a lot of fab skills to complete, a lot of money, and a lot of time. I've seen too many people cut up cars that didn't get finished cause they didn't have all 3 of those.

And yes the g8 GXP is what I want if I don't get a Challenger SRT8.
