Well that looks awful. Is that pulley pressed on or just bolted?

Re: Trunk latch...

Grrrrrrr. How can GM do some things so right and other things so very wrong? To punctuate that statement, I just got to remove the 12th failed window regulator from my 2000 Regal GS tonight.

Trunk latch...

Is it common for the metal that the latch mechanism in the trunk is screwed to essentially fall to pieces? I noticed that my trunk lid seemed a little loose while closed the other day so I started poking around. The sheet metal that the latch mechanism is attached to is cracked and torn to the point ...

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor

What do you mean it appears to be on it's way out? What are your symptoms?

A check engine light implicating the sensor for starters, followed more recently by occassional dead spots while driving or idling. These dead spots are, for now, just momentary, although when they happen at idle they ...

Crankshaft Position Sensor

Where is it located on the L36? Mine appears to be on its way out and I would prefer to replace it before it leaves me stranded on a freeway somewhere.

Re: HVAC Controller...again

Probably no one cares, but I figure an update to this can't hurt.

So I planned to take apart the glove box to watch the action of the mechanical parts but...SOMEONE locked the box and then proceeded to lose that key. So I need to get a new one and in the meantime can't open my glove box. However ...

Re: HVAC Controller...again

Very nice writeup. Hopefully I can get a chance to look at it this weekend. For now, it is flashing, but after a little hesitation at startup, it seems to be working.

Any handy writeups like that for replacing a leaky evaporator?

Re: HVAC Controller...again

A typical failure after battery disconnect/reconnect on this generation is a failed airmix actuator. The plastic gears snap and break when the system re-initializes.

Verify this by removing the glovebox liner (very easy to do) and watch through the small round hole in the dash support bar as you ...

Re: DISBALE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS

People got by for decades without DRL's. They aren't a big deal. I need to kill mine because they are messing with my new HID install. I'm also considering seeing what it would take to rewire the DRL system so that my front amber lights become my DRL's, like many other GM vehicles have. Much easier ...

Re: 1997 Radio Display took a crap.....

The bulb that backlights the radio display is soldered to the circuit board inside the radio. Over time, it breaks loose. For a while you will have intermittent backlighting, then eventually none. The fix is to resolder the bulb. Or get an aftermarket stereo.

HVAC Controller...again

My 96 Bonneville was having a problem for a while with the HVAC controller failing to function properly. I would turn it on one day and it would blow all hot. Turn it on later and it would blow all cold. Back and forth, no control whatsoever from me. Finally, it just started working again. Up until ...
