Trunk latch...
Is it common for the metal that the latch mechanism in the trunk is screwed to essentially fall to pieces? I noticed that my trunk lid seemed a little loose while closed the other day so I started poking around. The sheet metal that the latch mechanism is attached to is cracked and torn to the point that the area looks shattered. I have a few ideas on how to fix it, but I cant think of any reason this ever should have happened in the first place.

Yes common. On my 97 SSEi, I had my body guy weld in a thicker piece of sheet metal, fixed the problem.

Re: Trunk latch...
Grrrrrrr. How can GM do some things so right and other things so very wrong? To punctuate that statement, I just got to remove the 12th failed window regulator from my 2000 Regal GS tonight.
