Compatible software for 1995 model? For tuning? That is good news.

To answer the OP question, anything is possible with enough time and money. To keep it as simple as possible, swapping the driveline from the same model year will provide the fewest headaches. You would need the wiring and PCM etc ...

If it is a small popping sound perhaps it's the strut mount bearing. I am dealing with that right now on my 1994 SSE, 160,XXX miles.
