Re: Engine Hot A/C disabled warning, high temp on gauge (upd

Took the car in yesterday morning. Told the woman at the counter (the manager) about what was up. Also showed her printouts of the parts in question that I found on rockauto for almost a 3rd of the price and asked her what the deal was. She said that those were the prices the shop are given for ...

Re: Engine Hot A/C disabled warning, high temp on gauge

Well I dont know what Im supposed to be looking for. The oil seems fine, no sludge or crap that I can see. Coolant is low but they did note that on the worksheet and I do need a coolant flush. Its just the car had no overheating symptoms before I took it in, and a day later the needle flirts with ...

Re: Engine Hot A/C disabled warning, high temp on gauge

Just got back from AAP. Did a battery/alternator test. Everything checked out fine. Drove around the block a few times. The temp reached 200 and stayed there for a minute or 2, then on my way back home it started to climb up again. Didnt go near red but was on its way. While idling in the driveway I ...

Re: Engine Hot A/C disabled warning, high temp on gauge

Yeah its weird. I mean if the engine was near the red temp wise, wouldnt there be some smoke or strong burning smell, or stupidly hot to touch the hood? When I got back home and pulled into the garage I noticed no smells or wisps of smoke or anything. Doesn't mean that it wasn't really about to ...

Re: Engine Hot A/C disabled warning, high temp on gauge

Had a quick look before and didnt see anything out of the ordinary. When I was driving it like I listed in my OP, how come the temp would go down when on throttle, and rise during idle? Fan not working or something? I dont notice any blockage in the grill.

Re: Engine Hot A/C disabled warning, high temp on gauge

Searched for the parts via the part numbers, and found all 3 on Amazon for way less than what is listed. I think they get most of their stuff from AAP as its across the street from them and I see the AAP van from time to time in front of the shop. Not taking into consideration the shipping costs ...

Re: Engine Hot A/C disabled warning, high temp on gauge

He wrote that the Lower intake is leaking, valve covers is leaking, fluid on power steering pump clean and check. Then "tenbenr" elbow leaking, cant read that one at all. I was wrong on the head gasket. That was replaced a few years ago so I misread the paper. As for the leak that happened before ...

Engine Hot A/C disabled warning, high temp on gauge (update)

Yesterday morning I dropped my car off for an oil change and tire rotation. Picked it up and on the work sheet the mechanic listed a bunch of stuff that they wanted to fix. Apparently the head gasket needs to be replaced (again), and the LIM is leaking coolant (again). They quoted $1k to do all the ...

Re: The dreaded "Surging while in OD going up hills" Problem

How did you find out? What would it cost to repair/replace the TCC? Im afraid to ask, because I just cant afford a transmission repair bill right now. As long as the problem doesnt leave me stranded somewhere, I dont mind having to put up with it until I get a new car. I've put way too much money in ...

Re: front mount

I changed the mount last year almost to the day. It did not help whatsoever. The old mount was shot, so I replaced it with a new OEM part, but I noticed no change or improvement. There is engine movement, just dont know how much is too much. I think the rear mount needs replacing, but theres no way ...

Re: The dreaded "Surging while in OD going up hills" Problem

Im having the *exact* same problem. I've had it for over a year now. Changed plugs, replaced front trans mount, tested coils but still nothing, and its getting progressively worse. Now it happens on level roads, usually around 1500rpm when lightly pressing the gas.

Im taking the car tomorrow for ...

Re: Rear left brake light prone to failure?

Well actually it was the rear right, not left one this time. Thought for sure the officer said it was the left. Anyway I replaced it Sylvania 37 something or another. Works fine. Just hope this one lasts for 6 months. I did look at the socket and wiring and nothing out of the ordinary.

Re: Rear left brake light prone to failure?

Yeah let me off with a warning and told me to fix it. Its always the rear left light. I forgot what brand I used, Im pretty sure it was Sylvania's too.

Rear left brake light prone to failure?

So I was stopped at a red on a busy intersection when behind me a state trooper pulled up behind me. As soon as the lights go green I see his lights go off. Pulled over and he told me my left rear brake light was out.

This is probly the 3rd or 4th time this particular light has gone out. Replacing ...

Simple multimeter question

Ok, forgive my ignorance but I need to retest my ignition coils. I'm following the guide posted here: http://pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1683

I can test the secondaries easy enough, but the probes on my $20 Actron I got from AAP will not fit in the primary sockets. So my ...

Re: How to replace window regulator/motor.

Im having the same problems. The driver side rear broke last year, and the passenger rear went out a few weeks ago. The passenger rear however sounds like the cable is stuck or something. On a whim I decided to lower it via the button, and it did come down on its own, but it wont go up. Usually I ...

Re: Check/replace evap solenoid? [update]

Ok, I took the car in yesterday, but they were pretty busy and wanted a few hours with the car. Didnt wanna wait in the waiting room that long, so I made an appointment. Dropped it off this morning at 11am. Around 6pm I was getting worried. Was thing they were doing a crapload of work to the car ...

Re: Check/replace evap solenoid? [update]

Yeah thought so. I unplugged both, drove it for about half a mile or so. Just up the street where the surging usually kicks in. It didnt help. Same issue, and without the MAF/IAT plugged in, ran slightly worse. I didnt push it too hard though. Pulled over to a parking lot, turned the engine off ...

Re: Check/replace evap solenoid? [update]

Tired of adding edits. :)

Ok, read the Haynes a bit more clearer. I'm reasonably sure that black thing (with the ABC wire markings) is the MAF. And the plug on top of of the rubber elbow hosing is the IAT. I'm going to let my engine cool down a bit before unplugging both, then I will take it on a ...

Re: Check/replace evap solenoid? [update]

I read up on more on the TCC. It seems one common sign is the engine stalling at a stop or something. Thats not whats going on. The car seems to run fine crusing, or even giving it some power. The thing about letting go of the gas after giving it some power after the surging deal is hard to describe ...
