Re: Thank God Everybody Is Alright

Kids around here are too busy putting stickers and loud mufflers on their junkyard Hondas to notice an SSEi about to blow their multicolored doors off. That was one of the things that put the big grin on my face every time I drove it. They have no idea. Cept for the lucky kid I sold it to. The Grand ...

Re: HUD Feature Question

I've seen others mentioning doing it, even on older models that never had huds. Personally I'd put one in and see for myself if I really needed a new windshield. As many times as I've been blinded by the reflection of paperwork laying on my dash, I'm not entirely sure the glass isn't reflective ...

Re: Thank God Everybody Is Alright

Yeah, those are pretty nice. I had a 97 SSEi that I picked up for $1100 a couple years back. I sold it cause I needed a truck, and now I sold the truck since I don't really need it anymore. So I decided to get another one. I didn't want the regular 3800 though. My options were pretty much limited to ...

Re: Thank God Everybody Is Alright

Believe me, I crawled all over and under this one. The guy bought it as a spare when he blew the engine in his truck and he only drove it a few times. It really looks like it spent all but the last couple years in somebody's garage. He's got a new engine in his truck and with the axle seal blown it ...

Re: Thank God Everybody Is Alright

But not counting GXP 07's are there going to be any truly healthy low mile 00-05's left for $4K?

I just bought an '04 GXP in nice shape with 162k on it for $500. That's not a typo, so yes. It's in the shop now getting a blown axle seal on the driver's side replaced for another $200, it has a ...

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

Missed the other car, but I got mine all torn down and put back together today. If you ever wondered what the egr is doing to your engine, it's doing this.

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

That's next on the list when I get a minute. At least I only have 3 classes worth of finals this semester. Course now I've found another car that I simply must have. Another 3800. Bank probably won't go for it.

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

Coils - grab from a junkyard from another SSEi.

Done, and grabbed another ignition module while I was there. So now I have 6 coils and two modules. Two of the coils are new, one bought and one found at the yard (lucky), and four old ones. The car also had two brand new idler pulleys and a new ...

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

Till now I couldn't tell where it was. It wasn't throwing a misfire code until I gunked it. It had a random intermittent stuttering hesitation, now it's a steady misfire. I switched the coils around after I got the codes read to see if it would help, cause that seemed to work the second time I tried ...

Guess I'll have to. I replaced plugs and wires in September and put about 2000 miles on it since.

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

Short update: I borrowed a fuel pressure gauge from the mechanic at work and drove around for a few days with it clipped under my windshield wiper. Fuel pressure is dead steady at over 50psi on the high side, two stage pump apparently, no matter how much it misses. So it's not the pump. I retested ...

Re: changing the fuel pump on my 97se help and vids

If you do go after the fuel pump and you didn't see my thread, be careful with the bolts holding the tank straps. The bolts should be fine but GM used those thin little metal tabs with threads on one side instead of proper nuts. They're almost guaranteed to break due to rust buildup on the threads ...

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

Welp, so far I've managed to snap off the bolts in both rear exhaust hangers and break the silly little metal tab on one of the fuel tank strap bolts. Sure wish they made a kind of metal that doesn't corrode so this wouldn't happen every time.

...

Yup, this is impossible. The air chisel hardly ...

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

Hmm, I can't tell what the ones I ordered are made of until they get here, and they had to reship them after sending those others. About how long will the regular cheapies last? At this point I don't have the cash left to pay another $100 for a set of gaskets but new cheap ones would be better than ...

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

Oh, I had another question. I went up to autozone to grab a door panel tool to see if I could figure out why my speakers don't work and tighten up my driver's side mirror, and decided to ask about sway bar bushings to try and track down whatever is causing the popping in the front end. I already ...

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

Well this is interesting. I got my order from JB Performance and the fuel pump strainer from rockauto. But RA seems to have sent me these tiny gaskets I don't recognize instead of the lower intake gaskets. I'll have to figure out what happened with them, probably a warehouse error.

I had to ...

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

I ordered the VICTOR REINZ Part # MS16191 lim gasket and the AIRTEX Part # E3367 fuel pump from rockauto.com. Hopefully those will work. Have to reorder another coupler since zzp won't send me one.

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

Ok, switched coil one with coil two and took it for a spin. It ran smoother, staggered a little at 0, then pulled decently to wot. But I couldn't hear the supercharger; it sounded like a regular engine. Boost gauge went to 6-7 psi and wavered. That's kinda normal as the sc is a lot quieter when it's ...

Re: 97 ssei problems and parts list

Actually, that gives me an idea. Pack 1/2 was the one that was obviously bad, throwing the code and all. The replacement I could see wasn't firing right with the timing light on it, so I warrantied it, but something is still wonky with it. What I've never done was switch the coils I have around to ...
