Re: When gasoline goes to 15% ethonal

Sacratomato, when people put their cars on the track, they care a little less about the cost of the fuel and the mileage, and in many cases, their fuel is dictated to them.

And Ethanl has less energy per unit than Gasoline, so your comments above regarding performance and efficiency have no merit ...

Re: When gasoline goes to 15% ethonal

Ahh, struck a nerve. Laughing.

I said "ethanol" production triples. Not "corn ethanol" triples.

Yes, there is a way, and yes it will occur. Most all of the plant material all around us can be fermented. The science is there, as is the economics...the financing is next. Maybe this "troll" should ...

Re: When gasoline goes to 15% ethonal

Various sources other than corn are coming on line, but it's been a slow go. The financial crisis took out a lot of steam out of the investment crowd right as the non-corn technology was coming of age. Now there are a few in production small scale, and a few starting to go big. Project Liberty (Poet ...

This shifter looks great! Too bad they don't just come from the factory with better looking ones, but I guess if you made everything look great it would cost more or you ...

Re: Spark plug wire discussion

Well, I hope that solves the problem then. I replaced the wires once on the '92 SE and it helped, plus the fuel economy increased 15%. Must have had a bad problem for a while before that to see that much improvement.

Re: Spark plug wire discussion

If you bought the original wires by credit card, you should be able to get a copy of the purchase from the credit card company. It may be easy to print it off on-line even, or perhaps you have the original monthly statement from back then.

With the credit card information your purchase is likely ...

Re: Mods to Run E85?

Why on earth would we be interested in discussing E85 mods when there is clearly so much negativity towards that particular alternative fuel, based on well-founded controversy with a person who is obviously so slanted towards it, that seems to be their only interest or passion?

Re: Mods to Run E85?

I started this post with the question about mod's, but it appears that there will be very little discussion about mod's and instead it will be about evil (or not) ethanol. If someone is reading this that is doing mod's, my apologies, but now the discussion has to continue to debate the merits of ...

Re: Mods to Run E85?

As moderator of an E85 fuel company-owned forum, I would expect that you are also an employee of said company, and therefore, according my UNDERSTANDING of the rules her, you should be applying for vendor status before starting threads like this. I'll let the staff deal with that issue.

I also ...

Re: Mods to Run E85?

SE85, it's gonna take a heck of a lot more to convince ME on E85 than you have time for. I am a truck driver. That means that fuel is my biggest concern. E85, when you factor in subsidies, costs more per gallon than gasoline. FACT. There is no infrastructure to distribute it except by truck. FACT ...

:angry7: That is good to know, but it's just not right. Horse and carriage, anyone?

Hah, I would definitely have to move to the same neighborhood of my workplace then!

Though, the horse would have to be fed with feed produced using petroleum and fertilizer. Air conditioning could be a tough ...

Re: Mods to Run E85?

Here is a link that I found interesting. It is of an actual test they did.

Yes, there is this test and one that Consumer Reports did, both on this same model of Tahoe. It was later discovered that there was a bad error ...

Re: Mods to Run E85?

A CONVERTED vehicle cannot ADAPT. It's tuned to perform for one or the other.

Agreed (partially)--if you go so far as to change the compression ratio (milled heads, etc.) the regular 89 octange unleaded probably would not run well on a 12:1 ratio. Though, if you had an octane booster you would ...

Re: Mods to Run E85?

is E85 not subsidized? (last i knew it was) so the "price break" in it is just purely the government covering some of the cost? (which in turn comes out of our pockets)

YES, E85 is subsidized. So is petroleum production. There is no fantasy "free market," such as McCain would expect you to ...

Re: Mods to Run E85?

What do you do, John, if you are in a State that has E85 available, your car is setup to run it, and you travel to a State that has 4 locations that pump it for you?

A conversion to Flex Fuel E85 means that you can use either gasoline or E85.

Every month there are more and more E85 pumps. If ...

Re: Mods to Run E85?

Ethanol is only 65% efficient, and the cost to produce it (in fossil fuels) is ridiculous compared to what you get. You have to ALSO look at our overall electricity production and what fuels are used to produce it. In other words, dig below the surface. I'd rather you find it on your own. It'll ...
