Hi: I sold my 90 SSE about 2.5 years ago and just picked up a 92 Trofeo. I've worked through a few electrical and mechanical gremlins but I have not been able to fix the following:

1: No interior lights come on when either door is opened or when the lights switch is activated on the dashboard. I replaced the fuse with a new one. I am trying to locate a relay that is mentioned in the service manual.

2: The power door lock/unlock feature does not work for either door. I can't even fine a fuse in the fuse box that is related to the door locks. This car only has a fuse box in the glove box area with the exception of a few in the engine compartment but they are related to the ac, fan speed and not the door locks.

I was able to get my night dashboard lights to work by replacing the photocell.

I'm reaching out to this forum as I remember there were many knowledgeable members that were very willing to help. I can't say that about the Oldsmobile forum. I guess not many members of that forum work on their cars themselves. There are very few postings.

I would appreciate any clues or advice someone can give me.

Hey, I have that same car!


I have the Chassis Service Manual, I can look up the courtesy light and power lock electric schematics by the weekend. I have not had any electrical issues with mine, spare the random 'electrical problem' issue with the cluster, which is supposedly due to a leaking capacitor inside it.

I would start with a volt meter, test the ground circuits and power circuits, that will narrow down which side of the individual components the issue is on, and help with diagnostics if you can nail down where the issue is in the circuit.

MattStrike: Thanks for your input. I just finished installing new front struts and mounts this week (still need to the rears) and boy what a difference. I'm not very knowledgeable with electronic diagnostics so I most likely will be asking beginners questions of you.

You have a really nice looking '92 Trofeo yourself. I really wanted an '88 or '89 but couldn't find one. I used to own an '88 Trofeo about 6 years ago and loved that car.
