GM redesigned the coil to elimintate shorts to ground and as such they changed the electrical connector from a veritcal pigtail to a horizontal style. A single coil is part# 12594176 if I recall. You can get an individual coil, made by Airtex on Rock Auto for $41.

However, there is no adaptor that I know of to mix/match electrical connectors. As such, if you replace them, you need to replace the 4 on that side all at once as it all comes pre-harnessed.

I had a coil replaced under warranty and the dealer told me they had to order the entire 4 coil assembly.

In GM speak, that entire setup (the aluminum bracket, 4 coils, and pre-wired harness), can be called a "cartridge", "cassette", or "ignition coil assembly" should anyone hear that terminology. It is one in the same to what ddalder and I are talking about.

Also, under that "cartridge" are 4 rubber O-rings. One each slips over each coil shaft, and help prevents debris from falling into the hole and protects against moisture intrusion. Just don't want that to go missing should you not see it when you pull the old setup off.

I did try to find a coil for you today (with the vertical connector), at the junk yard. Found a couple N*'s, but after removing the coil shield, they weren't the same coil modules as the LD8 uses. :( Nothing in the 2004+ range.

I did find a very clean interiored '98 SE which I extracated the graphic EQ stereo and digital HVAC from. So once I clean those up, I will put them up for sale. I may try to see if the stereo will work with the harness on my Suburban and may put it in there.
