I have decided to tackle the lighting issue that has plauged this car sinceI have had it... It seems to blow the interior light fuse when it rains. I pulled the drivers seat and found moisture under the carpet, so I need to weather proof the car. wihch is going to have to wait till I have a little more time.

Anyway I saw under teh seat two black wires that looked to be linked togther in a connection that is in under the seat (side to side), and a black one similar but located just forward of the wiring "T".

these wires seem to go to the doors...

Now there is also a connector that has a bunch of white wires going in and out of it....

I dont have my wiring diagram handy to determine where these go....

Suggestions and thoughts appreciated :)

Hi,
My interior lights fuse (#27) keeps blowing in my 2003 SSEi. Did you have any luck finding out what is causing your problem?

Thanks.

One thing that has often caused the interior light fuse to blow has been a short in the wiring for one of the visors.

I assume the headliner has to come out for this?

Doesn't have to come out. Generally the wiring is bad inside the visor, not under the headliner.

I haven't put alot of time into tracking this down since its gotten cold. I am looking at pulling the interior out a some point to fix the sunroof, lighting issues and the heated seats... after I am done the car will definatly be in better condition than when I bought it!

And now I gotta take a look at those radio lights since they have started going out on me...

After removing the 4 or 5 screws for the visor, is there a pigtail up in the headliner to disconnect the electrical?

Yeah each side has 3 and that much I have done.. Also the Cig lighter is on the same circuit iffin I remember correctly... I disconnected that and the instant blowing stopped, now it is after a couple of days... Haven't figired out if it is a when it rains issue yet.. I have to replace a relay first... or not have my trunk open.... or horn blow...

I have put a multimeter across the fuse and it pulls nothing close to the 10 amps that is there... so it is intermittant whatever it is...

Thanks. A previous owner had an auto-mate remote start system installed, but it was not working. I had it fixed (bad remote, replaced driver's door wires), but hasn't solved my interior light issue. Please post any updates if you get yours working.

I bought a relay today for mine so that I can start logging when the fuse fails.

The guys at Advance had a hard time locating the right relay... Its not listed in their computer system, I have to tell them it was the same as the Trunk release, Fuel pump, and about 4 other relays.. they finally found the right part. (yeah...they was closest to me and wanted to start working on this)

So far so good though, when they do work, I found it interesting that they only work if the light outside is dark enough. I wasn't used to this as my previous cars was not that intelligent, including my '04 GP that I had...

I bought a new relay at AutoZone and it took them a while to find one too. Went out, pulled relay so they could get the GM number on relay and then they finally found one.

Did you folks all solve this issue with your interior lights? My 2003 is doing the same thing. I have blown 3 fuses and changed the relay, with no luck in finding the problem. A day later my interior lights do not work at all.

Found the problem... Like many others, it was a short in one of the visor lights.
